  It's ball-shattering cold outside!

  it's -35 degrees celcius here.

  with the windchill, it's -45 (that's -49 farenheit for those in the us).

  had to let the truck warm up for a good 10 minutes today, and it was solid as a rock (yes, it was plugged in).

  i was discussing with my auntie how in the 70's transplants were not allowed, and then in the 80's they were, and asked that since people died by not having a transplant what evidence this had of gods direction.

  he answer enlightened me.

  she said "transplants were dangerous in the 70's and so god was protecting his people from them.

He answer enlightened me. She said "transplants were dangerous in the 70's and so God was protecting his people from them."

  The WTS could take the same route to get out of the bloody mess they are in. Over the last few years they have eased off on blood restrictions. They have just primed their members that God reveals new light. They can now make blood transfusions a conscience matter, but retain eatting blood as wrong. That way they remove any legal risk by being able to say that any JW that refuses blood did so without coaxing.

  But how to get away with it without loosing members. Say that God was protecting his members by making blood transfusions wrong before. Reinforce the huge risks blood used to pose during the 20th century from AIDS, Hepatitis etc. Quote that old survey that 100,000 Americans used to get HepC each year from blood. Say how grateful every JW should be that God used the WTS to protect his people. Then end that now blood is not as dangerous it is a conscience matter.

  JWs are so convinced that blood is bad that they will be awed at how great their religion is.

  I am surprised how often Brooklyn is mentioned in American movies and sitcoms. It must be a well known place to Yankees. I would love to know how much the WTS properties are worth in Brooklyn.

  A 1975 story

  while i was in high school in the mid 60's i was told that the end was so near that i would not get to graduate from high school so i should not be concerned about being drafted due to the war in vietnam.

  well i got drafted but did not pass my physical due to a medical problem.. i then considered go to school in the late 60's to enter the medical field.

  i was encouraged by the elders not to do this because the end is so near and why get schooling for a profession that you will not need in a few years?

  Interesting story. I have never heard of the months to go calendar. I would love to see a photo too if anyone has one.

  The thing that upsets me about the org is it pushes statements made like your mothers, 'things are so bad'. It makes people have to feel life is so miserable. Now I am not a JW I see life as being so much more amazing. I am thankful every day that I live now, with medicine, painrelievers, dentists, a fridge" and no longer convince myself I have to dwell on the negative to try to prove God is about to kill everyone.

  For Danny and Hippie, as you want the issue addressed here is my spin.

  This is one of those typical paradoxical statements that a JW is trained to give. If we have a bad member it doesn't mean the org is bad, BUT if any other religion has a bad member, then that religion is bad.

  There was a drama on the flood that put it the other way around. Just because a person appears good, if they belong to another organisation they will get destroyed anyway.

  Of course that is all senseless. How often have you heard a JW criticise the Catholic Church for promoting pedophilia. Every organisation is filled with good and bad people. In " The Myth of the Pedophile Priest" by Philip Jenkins of the Catholic Church he states;

  “I am worried that justified anger over a few awful cases might be turned into ill-focused attacks against innocent clergy.... The stigma of the Geoghan affair could last for decades, and some Catholics are declaring in their outrage that they can never trust their Church again.

  Any HIV experiences with witnesses ????

  we had one brother who became a witness after he contracted hiv, he was very subdued and very willing to learn and very into the "truth", i guess that can really have an effect on you.

  he was very nice, i did feel sorry for him.

  it is a very sad way to die, and a terrible way to life out your last days.

  A brother got d/f about five years ago in my cong for being gay. The rumour was that he has HIV, but I could never confirm if it was true or if it was just a congregation urban myth to support the 'he reaped what he sew and deserves to die' attitude.

  Do things really always happen for a reason?

  ... or do people look at things that way in order to justify what is happening in our lives, and add meaning to it?

  if so is it healthy to think everything happens for a reason?

  Many things could happen for a simpler reason, such as we are subconsciously making them happen.
  Pray has been scientifically indicated to work, as does positive thinking.
  But at a highler level there is the idea of collective consciousness. Are we all interwoven as part of a greater scheme, not necessarily having everything directed, but each action affecting other actions that happen.
  
  My wife just had a miscarriage and had to go to hospital yesterday, so things are a bit down at the moment. When she accidently fell pregnant there were a lot of comments that it was wonderful and meant to happen. Now there are lots of comments that the miscarriage was for a reason.
  I see a reason, I never wanted a child, now i do. But the rest of my life is so chaotic right now maybe it was not good timing. Maybe I have learnt that i should have a child, but plan for it in a few months. Or maybe there is a reason it was not meant to be that will unfold.
  On the other hand i equally see no reason for it. It just happened. There are lessons to be learnt, and that is as far as I should think about it.
