so ive recently: joined the forum, read cofc, began reading combating cult mind control.....and today i gotta letter from my mother.
i thought i'd share it with others so that i can gain some hidden insight, and perhaps just to encourage someone else here who has relatives who are still mentally locked in.

so recently, several over-righteous ones in the cong were discussing "how amazing it felt when they got baptised".
statements like "how awesome did it feel as you got raised back out of the water?!".
or the classic "i felt so close to jehovah as i came out of the pool"!.
Disappointed. I thought I would feel an outpouring of Holy Spirit since I was now officially a JW. But nothing, no feeling at all, other than the shockingly cold water.
lol they keep saying that this is truly satans system and all that crap.how people in the world are so judgemental and crazy.. anyone else getting sick of this?.

One of the most iritating aspects of JWs is their negative ignorance. They need to be that way to maintain the illusion that the world is so evil it will soon end. As tragic as the Ferguson situation is, violence is at historical lows. JWs need to read Pinkers, The Better Angels of our Nature.
i'm sure this has been brought up before but.... i was talking a lil bit with the wife today about things as she brought it up.
she's baptized and all that, i'm not.
after the zone meeting i said enough.. anyway, she mentioned there's about 6000 anointed left and that armageddon would come before they all croaked.
If you check out jwfacts.com/watchtower/144000.php and memorial partakers you will see that the number is increasing and now over 13,000. Your wife must not be aware that the doctrine of the 1935 closing changed in 2007, and there are now an increasing number of partakers. It looks like the GB is preparing the change the doctrine to 144,000 being a figurative number. If you guide your wife to the publisher report in the Yearbook she will be quite surprised.
i've tried taking the slow, patient approach with my wife.
i believe i first posted here about 13 months ago about my wife.. we've always had good communication and could talk endlessly about philosophy, neuroscience, sociology and then when i learned the ttatt, i clammed up a bit about spiritual things.
i'd always been fairly liberal, suggesting other alternative ideas, but then i told my wife about the un/ngo scandal (i ran across the guardian story doing a talk as an ms, lol!
Regarding her skipping meetings and making you go, you really need to sort that out. You are being mamipulated and it is of no benefit to either of you. It is hypocritical of her and it is just a test. While you keep giving in it will keep happening. You need to make a stand that you will not go to the meeting without her, ever. Put up with the tantrums, and after a couple of times she will move on. Even dogs and small children know what they can and cannot get away with and what another persons limits are, and don't push much beyond that. I think you are being too soft and losing her respect. If you don't make a stand you will be stuck in this limbo until someone does.

She has shown that telling her things won't work, so try more questions. When she says "JWs have the truth!" ask what she feels is the strongest evidence of that. if she is willing to respond and says xyz you could ask if she is aware of other religions that do or teach the same, as there is nothing unique about JWs.
Regarding divorce, it is hard to know just from your comments, but maybe she is insecure that leaving the Watchtower means you also want to leave her. She is going through a lot of inner turmoil and needs your comfort and reassurance that you love her and your beliefs are not affecting your desire to be with her.

but, i fully expect that there will be some reference to the scientific wisdom behind his words.
Homosexuals don't breed, so the quality of their sperm is not important. JWs should not procreate in these final few seconds of the last days, so there sperm quality should not be a factor for them either.
so the governing body likes to keep claiming incredible growth.
at the same time they claim bible studies are way down.
are the finally admitting what we've known all along, that they can no longer recruit outsiders?
There can be growth without new recruits when inactive members return. I feel this is the case with all the excitement around 100 years since 1914, new website, Ebola and a couple of wars. I doubt they will be able to have such success in the next few years with former members.
seriously, i am so thankful that the org has officially allowed the use of ipads and tablets at the kingdom hall!.
it is the only thing that keeps me sane while sitting there....being able to log on to this site while pretending to follow along with the program!.
i think i would have literally lost my mind without this lifeline!.
How do you avoid being caught? I thought the elders would be on the look out for people that are using their iPads inappropriately.
