Supporting Vegetarian/Vegan Teens
by Scully inmy youngest is toying with the idea of adopting the vegan lifestyle.
she came to me at 11pm last evening with a strict list of what she wanted me to purchase for her as soon as the store opened this morning.
her enthusiasm could easily have been mistaken for "preaching".... and i'm afraid it didn't foster a very receptive spirit in me.. my main concern is her having adequate nutrition.

What about scheduling a visit with a nutrionist?
Seeing exactly how much spinach (OMG! I could just imagine) and almonds she'd have to eat on top of all the other nutrients. Might change her mind in a hurry.
She will gain wieght if she relies on fries and cheap veggie burgers. Show her the nutrient guides on those. :-)

Being a vegetarian is fairly easy but the vegan is more of a challenge.
What if she was put in charge of planning a nutrionally balanced vegan meal, purchasing the food and preparing it once a week? It might be too much for her to do on her own.
If you cook and plan and serve it to her then it becomes too easy to do and she might not realize how much prep time goes into each meal to ensure she's getting all her nutrients.
I'd be worried about her calcium intake if she becomes vegan as well.

My co-worker dx with Melanoma
by damselfly inshe's watched this mole grow and change for 3 years before she finally (at all of our urging) went to the doctor.
they aren't sure how far it has spread so they are doing more testing to determine how much of the surrounding leg tissue they will have to remove.
it's very invasive apparently (the type she has) and she will have to have radiation and chemo.

She's only 24.

It's very invasive apparently (the type she has) and she will have to have radiation and chemo. It doesn't look good for the future.
Please wear sunscreen and get your moles and skin checked for types of skin cancer.

I realize that you are not attacking or labeling Sparkplug.
Comparing paying bills and driving on the freeway to attending a funeral? Not attending a funeral means the person went out and partied instead? Do you really think that?
<<They could also be behaving either ;immaturely or selfishly, not necessarily both.>>
So they are either selfish or immature (or both) and there are no other reasons not to go?
Well I congratulate you on NOT labeling people , maybe you could work on not judging their behaviour. -

<<If it is a funeral that they "should attend," then I assume that there are relationships with those grieving that "should" be supported. But only sparkplug could tell us if that is why she used that description. >>
I agree with you on that, which is why I found the statement cold and unfeeling. You don't know how she is feeling and to call the lack of funeral attendance "selfish and immature" is in poor taste to me.
There is big difference in not attending because the person doesn't care or couldn't be bothered and not attending because emotionally or mentally the thought of doing so is too much to handle. This does not make someone immature and selfish.

<<People who don't attend a funeral "that they should" because they find it "too uncomfortable" to be around sadness and death are behaving selfishly and immaturely.>>
I disagree with you. What a cold and unfeeling statement to make.

Hi! putz over here too *waves*
I can't stand funerals, being in an enclosed place with all that grief floating around just does me in.
It's okay to stay home.

Your Funniest House-to-House Presentations
by Good Girl or Bad Girl? inso when my brother was a wee little lad, my mother was helping him prepare his first presentation.
it involved a paradise tract, i'm sure.. anyway, so my brother, probably about 5 or 6 years old, stands at his first door and makes his little presentation.
except he kind of forgot what he was going to say and kind of made it up on the spot, because what he ended up saying was, "if you'd like to live forever you can have this tract.

I don't have any funny stories because I did this too
<<I did that one day the "We're Jehovah's Witnesses" because my friend told me this way we could just breeze through our side of the street and wait in the car>>
Hello! Easiest way to end a conversation. I also imployed the very faint pseudoknock, combined with going to the door on the house that they obviously never, ever used themselves.
Birth -17 yrs = 0 scriptures read to householders. :-)
