Grounds for divorce.
by Norm indivorce has always been a tricky thing in the watchtower world and has been subject of many articles in the literature.
for a year - from january 1972 until december the same year, "christian" husbands could technically screw anything with a pulse in the animal world without giving his spouse a "biblical" reason to divorce him.
the only thing he had to be careful about if having sex with humans - men or women was to use the "rear entrance".

Well the way I always read that scripture....only men can get scriptural divorces if their wiveshave sex with other men, it says nothing about a problem with the wive having sexual relationships with other women and men well they can do it with anyone or anything and it doesn't matter....because I've yet to read a scipture that gives grounds for women to divorce their husbands. So women are screwed no matter how you look at it!

The next cover-up or scandal?
by kwintestal inmy personal thoughts are this.
with the population aging and with jw's becomming incresingly poor, there will be a lot more elder abuse, and i don't mean congregation elders, but elderly people.. does anyone know of this taking place in the congregations?.

The WTS has for many, many years strong armed it's members....particularly the wealthy ones and property owners to leave their possessions to the Society or Congregation. One elderly sister in my old congo owned the 5 acres in front of the acreage the KH sat on....she went to the CO and asked him to go to a lawyer and have a Deed prepared so she could convey it to the congo, retaining life rights to live in the house.......he never did it and when she passed away, the congo had to buy it from her niece and nephew (non-JW's) because they needed the parking and space to put an addition on the KH. In order to pay for the purchase the CO hit up two brothers in the congo, one a Dentist the other a Builder (they were wealthy), never telling them that if he had done his job and the congo had spent $500.00 two years earlier it wouldn't have cost $50,000.00 to buy what had been given to the congo as a gift. I know this is factual, because I was in my early twenties and sat at the dining table with both parties and offered the CO my services as a paralegal........he informed me that the congo had an attorney they used for things like this!
The JW's for the most part take, take, take and rarely (I'm not saying never) do they take care of the "widows and fatherless boy" (i.e. elderly, children with non-JW parent).

Discipline or Child Abuse?
by Dimples ini remember spanking my son when we used to attend meetings and conventions because he cried and just wouln't sit still.
i was told that he had to be disciplined so he would learn to behave and learn what was being said from the platform.
now that i look back i realize that that was child abuse and i feel so horrible about it.do you feel guilty for spanking your kids during meetings and conventions?

Undercover, I think I have to agree with you. I had a father (non-JW) that would swing first and ask questions later and a mother (JW) that would not only take you to the Ladies room and smack the snot out of you, but would then go home and have dad do the same thing!
My son (now 30) was one of those children that all you had to do was look at him, or tell him how disappointed you were in him and he'd shape up (not at meetings didn't go after 18 months old). His manners are wonderful and he's a pretty good kid!
My daughter however, (now 17) has been impossible from day one.....no "time outs" for her, 30 seconds after she mis-behaved she didn't remember what she had done, let alone why she was being punished.....but a threat of the "wooden spoon" was usually enough to straighten her out and if not then 3 or 4 smacks on the fatty part of the fanny was enough to ensure she would never repeat the action (I'm talking about actions like..running into the street.....playing with matches.......or any other life endangering practice she enjoyed).
I personally feel for all of the young mothers at the KH when their children are just being normal kids.....the KH I used to attend had a library (used as 2nd school) with a large glass window.....this room was very popular with the mothers as they could hear the meeting.....and no one could hear their kids.........! I think every KH should have a children's room...

Emoticon use...
by jeanniebeanz inhave you noticed that some posters seem to use the emoticon buttons more than others?
i have often wondered if those who use the buttons are normally very animated while talking, and use their arms and hands more than those who don't use the buttons.. if maybe they substituted the use of the emoticons for their inability to flail about with their arms, or make faces like they do in person.. i haven't met any of you in person yet so can't say.
it is true, or just a bad theory?.

I talk with my hands....and show emotion in my eyes....so I use, ........ !!!!!! and emoticons. If you ever saw me talk you'd know why! I also love the new "Betty"

My brother (now 50) served atBethel with Ray and left a few years before Ray's "differences" with the GB. He and I were talking yesterday about the JW's and how much we still believed and how much we didn't. I've been telling him about this site...hopefully he'll check it out soon. He asked me if Ray were still alive and I assured him he was...which he was glad to hear. His next comment shows what a great guy Ray was..."the only reason I stayed my full time at Bethel was because Ray would always listen to your questions and you never had to worry about him turning you in."

Daughters, Do you speak with your mothers voice?
by jeanniebeanz ini hear it when i see the faults in others, and condemn myself for any minor infraction.
it is my mothers voice.. i dont know exactly when she got into my head, but it is clearly her voice and judging that i hear.
she condemns me for the dirty dishes, the skirt that is too short or the blouse that is too low.

I was going to write something really profound, but I'm sitting here in tears! I mean literally in tears. I often thought I was the only one. I'm now finding at 53 that I am not. If I started I'd take up 4 or 5 pages. Mom made the snowballs and Dad threw them. Mom wasn't physical.....she was mostly mental.....like after you'd spent some time on your makeup and hair and clothes, just as you were climbing into the car to go to the meeting she'd say "I don't know why you decided to ______ (pick one...wear that, do your hair like that...picked that color lipstick with your skin tone)." or after she had cleaned my closets and given away clothes she felt I would no longer be wearing (without asking first) she'd say to the sister she'd given them to "you look so much better in that than Carol ever did".
I find myself with my 17 year old daughter biting my tongue, even when she asks for advice (do you think this is a good shade of blue for my hair, does this lip ring or this lip ring look better), as I want her to be able to figure out who she and be comfortable in her own skin. I was offered a modeling contract with the Ford Agency in New York City at 17 and while my Mother boasted about it.....she'd also make comments about my height, weight or lack of talent (I turned it down as I didn't feel I was good enough). I refuse to do that to either of my children.
Sorry for the rant....thanks for the topic Jeannie!
