Terrorist backlash - and so it starts
by katiekitten inmy mum lives next door to a little newsagents shop run by an asian family.
i used to live there, and i had the phone number of mr badat because sometimes people used to try and break in.

No Bisous, I would not presume to teach someone of your great knowledge anything.
I do apologize however to Katie.....for taking a lovely thread and turning it into a debate......Sorry Katie!

I think this board has probably saved my life, literally. I faded a number of years ago...have stresses since because there were some things I still believed....about six months ago I came across this board and every once in a while I'd visit and read. After finally becoming a member....I've really enjoyed the posts and yes the debates.....the freedom to be able to ask a question or voice an opinion and not be threatened with death is.....wonderful. these past few weeks I have found the constant, underlying depression I have felt for such a very long time disappear! For that I thank each and every poster!

Katie, I told you before.....pack up your daughter and your partner and come on over.......Richey may be escaping down here after he turns 18 if his Mum gives him too hard a time and I'm sure other's from the JWD will be stopping by to visit.......I've plenty of room and am always up for company!
And, unless she is totally anti ex-JW, bring your Mom for a visit, she sounds like my kind of person!

bisous, please don't pull the old....kidnapped by white people and sold into slavery card out of the deck! The majority of slaves were kidnapped by other tribes during class wars among their own people and sold into slaverynot only but the other tribes, but also by their own leaders...I'm not saying whites weren't involved as they were....but they were sold by their own race more often than not!
I believe very little of what the politicians have to say.....I didn't vote for George W. and I don't like war.....I know why the original settlers came to this country and I know why over the last 200+ years people have continued to immigrate to this country!
But thanks for the history lesson anyway!

Katie I think what your mother did was great....and I know you worry about where she lives! Hang in there!
Bisous, I believe very little I read in the Washington Post or the New York Times.....after all we have proof that often times their reporters lie through their teeth to make the story more interesting or lean more towards the politics of the owner. And I too am tired of constantly being bashed over this war......it reminds me of Viet Nam. I don't support any war, but I do support the men and women that are fighting it (in the last seven years my neighbor has been gone 4 years....bosnia, bosnia, Iraq, Iraq.....she works for the US Postal Service, is in the Army Reserve and delivers mail to the armed forces). Yes we had a few isolated incidents in the US after 9/11/01 and we've had a few since Iraq was invaded.......but the good conduct of the many (like Katie's Mother) far outweigh the bad conduct of the few.
However, I have a question......where is the country of Moslem located? I always assumed it was a religious belief. Also, doesn't being born in a country make you a citizen of that country....i.e. If you're born in the U.S. you're American.....In Canada.. Canadian.....in England...English....Ireland..Irish......and you would be of ?????? descent if your parents were of a different nationality? I know you can have dual citizenship, but aren't you first a citizen of where you're born if that's where your parents are living when you're born?
I live 3 miles from the campus of Florida Tech, formerly Florida Institute of Technology and 4 miles from the Florida Air Academy, a private military school. Both are heavily populated by young men and women (only FIT accept woment) of Iranian, Iraqie, Indian, Isrealie, etc. citizenship, who with a few exceptions, are wonderful people and a credit to their parent's raising. We now have several Moslem Mosques (? spelling) and several Jewish Temples in our area.....they all cry along with the rest of us over the horrible things happening. Our biggest problems seem to be with the prejudice bigots in the area.
Sorry....Katie...I'll see you next week!

How I got out of JWs, they showed me the way!
by out of the box ini have been writing 'my story' in bits and pieces here.
it was pouring out, one of the kids sick, jw husband wasn't going.
i got in the car (this little hatch-back car was a loaner from the garage because our larger car was being repaired) i was stopped at a stop sign and i was on time for the meeting.. i heard something and turned in time to see something coming at me fast.

The way some of the posters here were treated is sickening.....but I have to agree with the concept that if you had decent human beings as elders, your treatment was better. The congo I grew up in helped everyone as much as they could, but a lot of the elders were uneducated and what would be referred to in the "world" as "white trash". My Mother always complains to my brothers and I about our associating with "white trash" now that we have faded....and I think....these people are the same type of people we grew up with in the "truth".....the judgmental attitude of the JW's is probably the biggest reason I left.

Thanks for the info....now if my mom calls, and I choose to answer the phone (I just love caller ID), I'll have some info....not that things have really changed, except they seem to have added one or two more "deepers" into the end of his system of things and they seem to be baptising them younger. When I was 13 and wanted to get baptised.......I really had to beg and prove I was qualified at such a young age (I plead insanity!).
The lack of food at the assembly/convention site surprises me........all of the assembly halls they were building where so far out in the country there was no place to go to eat within miles......I guess things change.....and you were definately chastised if you brough food (I remember bring cookies for my child and being told off)...of what a difference a decade makes!
