Hi Tetra,
What is your qualification to judge the Bible or any other work for that matter? Anyone can distract from an argument by attempting to intimidate the opposition. You made derogatory statements about scripture to try to make me look bad. Therefore, you ruin any reasoning that comes after.
Now as far as the basis for us being alive in the first place. You need to prove there is not a creator, since we do indeed exist and there has never been any valid explanation for life. You also need to come up with a standard to base 'good', 'better' and so on. Where is the basis for YOUR morality? What is the basis for your 'standard' if there are no moral absolutes?
So, my question to Hellrider still stands.
R.

So Hellrider,
Perhaps you can tell us what your world view is? On what source of strength do you draw on when you contemplate the meaninglessness of life?
Have a nice day!

Gods Hero[s]
by Norm inthose who are believers and worry about meeting gods standard for moral, ethics and general behavior seem to have very little to worry about.
at least if we are to take the bible serious.
most christians seems to be very selective in such matters.

Hi Lilicurly, >I do not think it's arrogant to be wondering why a supposedly loving God choose to kill men, women and children while calling faithful some characters who did things any Jehovah's Witnesses would be Disfellowshipped for (or sentenced by the world itself, in the case of Samson and others.) Who determines our ultimate lifespan and how we die, if not by commision then by ommision? When it comes to that kind of subject, God has his providence and will that overarches all other concerns. He sees the 'big picture' and is omniscient and omnipresent. God cannot, by the very defintion, be a self-limited spirit as JW's teach. God is not in any obligated to do what we think is right and best. In fact, He only assures Christians of His divine providence. "All things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose." Rom. 8.28. There is no assurance like that for the ones who will ultimately oppose and die eternally due to unbelief (John 3.16-20 tells us why some beleive and some will not). A study of the bood of Romans will help you get the theology right to begin with. Try a good study Bible then look online for resources and books available. Even within the principles of predestination there is room for man to choose life or death (when it comes to eternity). Don't assume that the immortality of the soul is false.... >How can a fair God say "Thou shalt not kill" then have all these people wiped-out is just beyond my understanding. And yes, I do think it's important to understand before blindly beleiving. God from the Bible seem to have two distinct personalities...the vengeful, violent one, and the one who is called Love who gave is own son to save humanity. This subject is too in-depth to give any good answers here. I may be able to point you the right way if you choose to pursue it through a private e-mail. I can recommend some good apologetics works if you are seriously searching for answers. God Bless you and keep you. Rex

You said: >What did God’s spirit influence Samson to do? Let us find out: *** Rbi8 Judges 14:1-2 *** 14 Then Samson went down to Tim'nah and saw a woman in Tim'nah of the daughters of the Phi•lis'tines. 2 So he went up and told his father and his mother and said: “There is a woman that I have seen in Tim'nah of the daughters of the Phi•lis'tines, and now get her for me as a wife. >Well, apparently God made him think about, and (gasp) want sex because he wanted to marry, not to a fine Jewish woman, but a Philistine woman. God had apparently for some reason seen fit to endow Samson with “great strength”, one of the way’s Samson used this ability was to be cruel to animals, apparently something greatly admired in those days: The problem with your reasoning here is that you seem to assume that all that Samson ever did was under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Any first year student of biblical history can tell you that God did not indwell any person CONTINUALLY until after the cross of Calvary. Much like any of us ex-JW, you assume things that are not true, leading to a errant conclusion. I'd encourage you to actually take some courses in biblical exgesis and hermeneutics before you attempt to critisize the book that you so love to bash. Have a nice day! Rex

The Atheist's Book of Bible Stories - Ch. 18 - Danny Boy
by RunningMan inaccording to bible tradition, the book of daniel was written during the sixth century b.c.
yet, history shows that belshazzar was actually the son of nabonidus, who ruled four kings after nebuchadnezar, and was no relation to him.
where are the historical records?
-
Rex
You said> > Bible scholars have placed the writing of the book much later than its traditional date of origin, likely in the second or third century, B.C. This means that the uncanny accuracy of Daniel’s prophesies was not quite such a great feat. It’s not hard to predict the future after it has already happened. The 'scholars' you are talking about are leftist, liberal and biased selection you can imagine. Like the ones who took part in the "Jesus Seminar', they have the preconcieved belief that no supernatural events have ever happpened. Using that line of reasoning they begin from there. You will find exactly what you look for in the realm of 'scholarly research' to back up any argument on either side of this type of issue. If you are going to make claims of scripture then you need to see the reasoning from all points of view. In the end none of that matters. What matters is this: who do you say Jesus is? That will determine your fate in the ultimate eternity. St. Augustine: "Seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand." Rex

Trinity?!?!
by Lynne Y inhello, it's lynne again... how's everyone doing?
um..i have a quick question.. haha.. .
one of the most distinguishable doctrine(?
-
Rex
Sheesh, didn't anyone here READ Neonmadman's post? How much scripture do you need to see the inference of the trinity? The reason it was not stated explicitly early on (the apostolic age) was because it was so obvious in scripture. The Jews had always expected YHWH to come to earth and liberate them, Immanuel: God with us (Isa. 9:6). The actual term and doctrine developed as gnostic heresies sprouted (btw, JWs have a couple of different gnostic heresies that they push as the Troof) and 'apologia' was necessary. The church had to define what had previously been a 'given'. Christians had always worshipped Christ, even before His crucifixtion. This is why the NWT uses the word 'obesiance' instead of 'worship' in John 9.38 and they use the same tactic in other scripture over 300 times to change it to match their doctrine. BTW, Gnosticism is defined as 'special knowledge' and we all the know the 'unfaithful and indiscreet slave' have that, don't we? Rex

Hi, My name is Rex Baker. I am a Southern Baptist Evanglist and I want to talk to you about salvation: how it is personal and can be attained for an eternity. Please message me through this forum and I will get back to you promptly. BTW, we will be using the Bible only. Do not bring any other material with you. One subject, scripture by scripture, discerning the context in historical (cultural), style of writing, hermeneutical principles, etc.... Have a nice day and hope to hear from you!

How do the Kigdom Melodies compare to Christendom's Songs?
by Honesty ini just have to comment about the canned wtbts music on cd the local congregations play on $150 cd players through $20 speakers set in the foamboard ceilings at their sales meetings worship services.
what a joke the music is that they use to sing praises.
the lyrics remind me of a high school pep rally with all the emphasis on 'we're joe hoba's witnesses and yada-yada-yah preaching from door to door and from house to house' or 'life everlasting in the pair-o-dice' crap that just tickles the dubbies ears so much they get all pretty and pink.

How Great Thou Art Here ya go, bro! E7 A D O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder A E7 A Consider all the works Thy hands have made, E7 A D I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder, A E7 A Thy power throughout the universe displayed. D A Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; E7 A How great Thou art! How great Thou art! D A Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; Bm E7 A How great Thou art! How great Thou art! When through the woods, the forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees, When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze... And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin... When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration And there proclaim, my God how great Thou art! ©1953, 1955, Manna Music Words and Music by Stuart K. Jerusalem Did you know that Emerson, Lake and Palmer covered this hymn in a album called, "Brain Salad Surgery"? Man that is an awesome hymn and I am a baritone/tenor singer. I am going to try and find the performance tape and sing it in church! God Bless, Rex
