Welcome to the board, Alpheta! I hope you still find the information here useful.

i'm "alpheta".
i've been reading here for the past few weeks, but have visited from time to time over several years.. short history, i started studying in 1993, was baptised in 1996, and succinctly and with much planning disassociated myself in october, 2003.. i don't believe i have any lasting psychological damage or issues, but i was curious about the state of the wtbts (or whatever they go by these days), and i found your site and a lot of information that, i have to say, i found shocking at first like - oh my goddess, they really did that?
- kind of thing.. anyway, nice to have read your posts and i really enjoy the sense of community here.

i used to hear about good `ol days when people were happy dubs.
people had fun, did things together and it seems by the tone of the converstaions that there was less control over every tiny detail of the brothers lives.. i remember the 1st time someone told me as an unbaptised publisher that i would eventually be 'counceled' for not wearing a suit.
i was utterly stunned!
I think there is a dual answer to this question:
1. Society-wise, I would agree when Knorr took over. The whole debacle at Bethel took place during his oversight.
2. On a personal level, I think the R&F go to great lengths to give their BS's the impression that free thinking is allowed. (Of course you should check all the references in the book, that is how you make the truf your own!). When someone becomes an unbaptized publisher, you start to get a sense of the controlling force going on.
Karen ( just my 2 cents)
anyone got any info on how how and why certain people are chosen/elected?
It's usually an elder, in my old cong, it was the PO.
if you left the org.
have you received a blood transfusion?
for me yes, about 5 years ago i had to have an emergency operation i lost a lot of blood, and received blood, since it was an emergency i did have to make a choice, but i know if they asked me i would say yes, i probably wouldn't be here today if it was up to my family.
I haven't needed one, but honestly, this has been on my mind alot recently.
I keep thinking back to the blood booklet we studied at the BS. I can excuse the scripture as not including a transfusion, I have no problem with that. It's all the supposedly "medical facts" that brochure had in it that said blood was bad. If anyone can point me to information that debunks what the borg said in the brochure, I would be very interested.

We went to a Japanese restaraunt with my parents and brother. I had Hibachi Filet Mignon - it was great! Some fried rice, noodles, veggies and a glass of Pinot Grigio (I know, I should have red with beef, but who cares!). I was stuffed!

Same canned replies. I bet this went through Brooklyn, and not the local KH.
it's been two years since my da and yet with over a 28 year period of meetings i can still see every meeting in my mind.
everyone sitting in their same seats, the same ones throwing up their hands to answer, the same elders standing in the same place after the meetings to talk to the same people.
it begins to seem sureal.
Thank goodness, no. I remember little snippets here and there, esp. the funny stuff.

dear kotex.
i recently noticed that the peel-off strip of my pantiliner had a bunch of kotex tips for life" on it.
How funny! I love the little red "period" in the pics! What subtle imagery! What humor!
it is eye opening how much we were all blinded.

ive been a member of this board for just over four years, and i have never posted an introduction.
i mostly stick to the "fluff" threads, because they are safe.
i wont be attacked for an unpopular point of view, or hurt anyone elses feelings.
