Buffalo, NY JW woman killed by stray bullet
by Cygnus in.
it seemed like a normal, tragic story, a hard-working mother who held down 2 jobs and all of her children went to college.. then the article says she was a devout jw.
i had to do a double-take.. http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20050818/1025447.asp

That's very sad to see.
And Rebel- the same thing went through my mind- a cleaning business.

If New Light (TM) is so important...
by Elsewhere in.
why doesn't the wts point out the new light (tm) when it is published and do a compare and contrast study so jws are fully aware of the change and the ramifications of the change?.
to this day there are many jws who are unaware of the generation change in 1995.

Ok, I don't remember the 95 generation change when I was still a JW- could someone fill me in on the "New Light (TM)?"

Mine would have to be tacos and pasta of any sort- they are the only types of food in which I can out-eat my husband.

My niece was DF'd -
by AK - Jeff indidn't want to hijack orangefatcat's thread - but it reminded me so much of the joy i felt just a few months back when my niece was df'd.. my only brother, a die-hard witness [ i confess, i was the one who brought him into the 'truth' ] died at age 46 just a little over two years back now.
two of his kids were still in the borg, and i was just fading at the time.
i never thought there was a chance that i would see them come out, as the good witch glenda [step-mom] seemed to have them in her grips and she was busy slandering us as 'apostate' to the kids.

Congrats- after being on here, I know it must feel good to see one of your family members get away, and hopefully she will stay away.
I wish I could see my mom leave.

By the way what is "loose conduct" Is when they are sure you are doing something wrong but they don't know what it is?
Actually, that's a great way of putting it. Or they do actually know you did something wrong (i.e. groping, making out), but it wasn't quite to the point of sex.

Which meetings did you hate the most?
by JH inout of the 5 weekly meetings, here are the ones i hated the most.. in order.
1. theocratic ministry school ( i hated speaking in public) got me so nervous.. 2. service meeting ( too much crap and statistics and presentations).
3. the book study ( just a waist of time ).

In order of least favorite:
1.Service meeting was definitely my least favorite. Man, I have only been gone from them for 4 years, and I can't even remember what they used to go on and on about. Except of course when there was an announcement about someone- then everyone's ears perked up.
2. Theocratic ministry school- no wonder it was supposed to be "teaching" people how to speak- some of them really sucked at (who knows, maybe i did too), and some of them were just so boring- even with only 5 minute long talks!
3. Public talk- it definitely all depended on the speaker. My mom goes to a therapist who is an elder, and he was actually always really awesome at giving talks- very energized and into it and kept your attention, and then there was others in which I'd have to drink lots of coffee and pinch myself to stay awake.
4. Book study- Usually didn't bother me, I think mostly because it was the shortest meeting. But some of the books did bore me to
deathsleep.5. Watchtower- As someone else said, if the article didn't grab my attention (although when I was being a good jdub, I would be trying to comment, so that kept my attention), I would read the rest of the magazine (cause that's the only time I would read the rest of it!)

Dogma - The Movie (Directed by Kevin Smith)
by Black Man inhey y'all,.
i recently got this film on dvd and it is so on-point with its cynical look at religion and belief systems.
i laughed 'till i cried.

Dogma is probably one of my favorite Kevin Smith movies. i think everyone should watch it at least once. And then the JW's should definitely hear these quotes:
Serendipity: When are you people going to learn? It's not about who's right or wrong. No denomination's nailed it yet, and they never will because they're all too self-righteous to realize that it doesn't matter what you have faith in, just that you have faith. Your hearts are in the right place, but your brains need to wake up.
Loki: Church laws are fallible because they're created by man.
This one is good too:Bethany: What's he like?
Metatron: God? Lonely. But funny. He's got a great sense of humor. Take sex for example. There's nothing funnier than the ridiculous faces you people make mid-coitus.
Bethany: Sex is a joke in heaven?
Metatron: The way I understand it, it's mostly a joke down here, too. -

I'm sorry to hear about your mother. It's hard to watch a family member when you feel like you have no way to help them. I am sure you will be able to figure something out to be able to help her. Keep us updated.

It was very nice of defd to apologize, but if you know a post or thread is going to offend you, why read it? And honestly, I would think most of the things said on here would bother him- so why is he on here?
