Do they allow internet at bethel?

just curious, with all the internet bashing, etc, if a bethelite wanted to have internet access in their room, would it be allowed.. if so, i wonder if they monitor the activity?

Yes they do.

And my brother in law (and sister) who is presently doing work (at the branch in new york and now colombia)there has a wireless laptop.

Many puter savvy ones may have thier own firewalls preventing access or monitoring though if directly using the society's server they may be able to access some info.

The fact the bethelite was monitoring his dads pc is simple, he probably put on a remote monitoring keylogger on there. Some are undetectable but all you need is access to the computer to install and the other users may or may not know of it. The data is then emailed or can be seen online.

Do you ever feel guilty?

after reading hs topic of shunning, it got me thinking - how many people have i hurt over the years by shunning, marking, labeling as "bad association"?

when i hear the stories of my fellow posters, it really makes me regret how super rightoeus, guillible and judgemental, i was back then, when i had no real life experience or any right to judge anyone elses choices or mistakes in life.. i know i can't change the past, but i am sincerely sorry to anyone i shunned back then and although i know my family will never change their belief in the "troof" i will always make it a point to let them know just how damaging the practice of shunning really is and how it can even lead some one to suicide.. i am sure if i had put a bullet in my head when i was dfed their view on the "troof would be different today.. by the way they never shunned me.

"family business" clause.. is anyone else guilty of this?

I never was very good at shunning at all, I remember saying hi and acknowledging dfed people before I ever was.After I was the one time I recall finding it nice to have some people remember you were human.

Ironic now I'm "back" I'm going to blatantly walk, no jcs nothing....

I agree the theo school and pioneering were two very helpful things in learning how to do public speaking and approach strangers without attending expensive courses.

I don't regret my decisions especially to make my grand finale.

Starting to post here has been a HUGE help to me.

Yep the "org" has to go. Calling it the "organ" sounds worse and more suiting I think.

Phone Witnessing...

in my congregation, there is a well established group that does phone witnessing every thursday.

the society actually encourages us to try other avenues of ministry, however it seems like phone witnessing is hurting more than its helping.... even i, the covert apostate, don't mind phone witnessing.

i mean whats not to love?air conditioningfoodsitting around and talkinggirlsdid i mention food?.

Scarily it is common practice to do just that in Mini Soda, and yes it's encouraged from the platform.

Mental Health Help and Congregational Support....

so part of my past and history is this, at the age of 5 my brother and i went to live with my moms best friend, and my sisters went to live elsewhere, my parents had both had mental breakdowns.. my dad was getting treatment for his depression and the elders came to visit him.

the actually told him that they were there to get him out, he refused because he knew he needed the help.. this is 20+ years ago now, and my family was one of the "bad" ones in the hall for that reason, among other things.

i know now the society has changed its stance in some watchtowers mentioning that sometimes outside help is needed though there is still a huge stigma when people learn you have sought help, at least around where i live.. the ironic thing is my parents went to therapy for years as well, and when one of my sisters went to therapy and became stronger, she left the jw's my parents still blame that pyschologist.

The best of my understanding since both of my parents came from highly abusive families (as well as bringing those traits into our family until they got help) is that they need the structure the acceptence of some organization, because it makes it simple for them...ie this is wrong this is good.

I was wondering has anyone else had similar experiences with the Elders meddling in the pursuit of mental health, what was the side effects?

I'm with Evil and KLS I normally don't sleep more than 3 or 4 anymore, oddly though it went away completely when my boy was out here with me. When on the phone he tells me to sleep well. I laugh, he knows I'm an insomniac.

i can't stand getting salespeople calling from the same company 3 times in a day!

i hate being behind asian or indian drivers........

People that gorge on something because its free ....ie oh look they have magnets at this tradeshow booth I'll take 50.

This also includes those that feel obligated to go up for 10 rounds of food because its an all you can eat buffet.
