There but for the grace of God go we! I too am thankful today for the freedom we have in our country. I pray that those living in the war torn countries will have the strength and courage to endure.

Making it "through" to the other side...
by Dawn ini've been away for some time - lots of work and family stuff keeping me busy.
i was reading through a lot of the posts this evening catching up and there are so many new people here!
so to all of you who are just now searching for an answer, to those that are scared of leaving, or scared that you've been df'd, or scared of armageddon - i want to let you know what it's like on the other side - when you've finally made it through all the fear, the guilt, the sorrow, and have healed.. there is a feeling of freedom now that i can not explain to anyone still in - in fact, even people who were not once jw's don't understand because they don't know what it was like to be in "chains".

Beautiful post, Dawn. You sentiments are echoed by many others on the board. We are not ruled by "guilt" anymore and can feel happy with ourselves for the first time. We are finally "good enough".

Your Funniest House-to-House Presentations
by Good Girl or Bad Girl? inso when my brother was a wee little lad, my mother was helping him prepare his first presentation.
it involved a paradise tract, i'm sure.. anyway, so my brother, probably about 5 or 6 years old, stands at his first door and makes his little presentation.
except he kind of forgot what he was going to say and kind of made it up on the spot, because what he ended up saying was, "if you'd like to live forever you can have this tract.

I wasn't there for this one but was told about it. A little boy who was always funny went out with his mom. At the door the householder asked him what his name was........he answered, "Kent, Clark Kent" with a very serious look. His mom was really embarrassed. Another time he was out with his mom and she started chatting with the householder and he said, "we are here to talk about the Bible"..interrupting their little conversation...

In memory of Jeff...
by nsrn ini was just remembering a childhood friend.
jeff was 2 years older than me, and our mothers were good friends, lifelong witness sisters.
jeff's dad was 'worldly,' and i can remember being envious that jeff didn't have to go out in service and was allowed to miss many meetings.

That is so sad... Keep his memory alive and with you always. ...Much love to you.

One small baby step for Arwen one year ago today has led me down a path to where I am now taking long strides. I was reading over some of my early posts here on JWD and I have come a long way. I finally disassociated myself on June 8 and I am so thankful that I found this board to help me get on with my life. All of you have encouraged me so much and I feel so much a part of this group. I am here every day and I know I could talk to any of you if I needed help. I am going to start to tell my story slowly in the next few weeks....just a bit at a time. I need to do this for my own healing but I also want to help any others who may be suffering where they are in their lives at present. I have enjoyed travelling with you here for the past year.

Why do the majority of "newbies" disappear ???
by kid-A ini have noticed that, in general, there is a "core" of regular posters on jwd that have been members for several years.. however, it seems the vast majority of "newbies" disappear after a couple posts, days or perhaps a week.
how many "welcome" or "introduction" .
threads have we had here where the new member disappears within a day or so, never to post again?

Tomorrow, July 13 I will have been here one year! I was a newbie and very, nervous to post. I read the board every day and have got to know some personally. I was put down so much in my JW life that my comments are very hard to type out most of the time. I have to convince myself to post. I think the majority of the newbies are reading and posting every now and again. Maybe we could encourage them to post more. All posts welcome! I am glad I made that "baby step" last July. I have come a long way baby.............

How "old" is the oldest person who lived in your family?
by JH ini was just wondering how old can a person live.
my grandmother lived up to 97, almost 98. .
those born in 1914 are 92 years old and some are still alive.. i guess that no one lived over 120 years since the flood.. how "old" is the oldest person who lived in your family?

My uncle is going to be 88 in august. He looks and acts like a 65 year old. He drives a sporty car that he bought last year for cash. He is in great shape and was chain sawing trees untill last year shen we made him put the saw away. He was never married but had a girlfriend for 46 years.(Maybe that is why he is so healthy) His cousin lived to be 108 and her sister liver to be 104 and still ran a Bed and Breakfast in her ninties and looked after her mentally challenged son who was in his 70's. Another cousin of his who was a JW lived to 102. Another uncle thru marriage lived to be 102. Both my parents died too early. Dad was 69 and Mom 72.
