I love my HMO! (kaiser) They approved a $20k surgery for me that Blue Cross wouldn't cover as they say it's not necessary. At my age my premium is only $130/month (but that's paid for by work) and my co-pay is $20. It kicks @$$.
Dental from AFLAC is only $28/month and i haven't paid a dime yet to my dentist.
With the way people here in the US go to the doctor for every sniffle and headache, socialized medicine would bankrupt the country.

Remember when KH's had a piano and real singing?
by WingCommander inthe thread about got me thinking about my very early childhood, back when witnesses were allowed to be social and have get togethers.
they also had a piano in every congregation i ever attended, and an older sister would always play the kingdom melody.
there was actual singing - not mindless droning and humming.

When my family moved to a new congregation around 1990, the new cong. had an upright and a little grandma organ (the ones that you could add a samba beat etc etc). There was a sister that would play the piano, but she was old and it didn't last long. Soon enough both of the instruments vanished.
I never understood why they had an organ. True organ music is made for an organ or harpsichord. Just like piano music can be played usually on piano or guitar (if there are chords). I had a long lecture on this by someone that was a professor of Baroque music. Or as I called it, broke music because you really can't make a living with a degree in it. HAHA!

I didn't realize you could privately fly so close to LAX. What was your altitude?
We were about 4,500 ft. In the parts we were flying, LAX space was above us so we were safe. Although, we had to watch out for Burbank boundaries as they take up a good chunk of the Valley and hills east of Van Nuys.

It must be nerve racking to do circuits in controlled airspace like you have over there.
It was interesting to hear "you can't go over there that belongs to Burbank and that over there belongs of Los Angeles". But, we did have a tiny GPS display that actually shows boundaries. We did have to have a look out the windows constantly to watch for other air traffic. I know that when I am able to rent, I want to rent a plane that displays other aircraft on screen. It's only $30 more a flight hour but it may be worth it for a trip to Palm Springs.
is it expensive
The estimated cost for your Private Pilot License (plane rental, instructor, books, test, medical, other stuff) is around $9,000. But, it's pay as you go so if it takes two years to train, it's ok. I have some $$ saved up and will finance just a little bit.

Yay! I took my first flight lesson yesterday after work. I was so fun and such a great experience. The entire lesson was hands on. The only things I didn't do were the communications and short final approach for landing. It was a beautiful day for flying too. I left out of Van Nuys Airport in LA. Flew out of the valley, over Hollywood to downtown, turned around back towards Century City, then to Malibu, over the mountains to Thousand Oaks, over more hills to Simi Valley, then came back to the valley to land.
Here are two pictures: One of me flying the plane over Simi Valley and the other of my flight path. (the green circle represents the airport)

Gun owners - 3rd party defense of JW?
by asleif_dufansdottir inmy ccw instructor was not very encouraging about 3rd party defense by a ccw holder.
he said that it was not only risky because too often you (the ccw holder) don't know the whole story and you could make a big mistake.
in addition, there's the risk that you could act in defense of a stranger, only to find out the stranger is horrified by you having a gun, and could say something to the cops that screws you over (even if you've acted within the bounds of the law).. given that the society's published attitude about guns as defense, is that christians "reject magic and weapons as tools of protection," how willing would you be to act in defense of a jw that a) you didn't know [you saw them being attacked on the street] or b) you did know?

Obviously most anti-gun people live in urban areas and only hear about the criminals that use guns. What if you were a dairy farmer and every night lost a cow or two to coyotes? "Bad dog! Don't kill my investment" HAHA!! Guns are useful tools. People that think they are only bad are tools.

OMG that was so funny. I love the bus.
It's ironic that if someone did that with Mohammed there would be a world war going on.
