This is an excellent suggestion.

There's something happening here.
by nicolaou inhey watchtower!
can you feel it?
that cold, hard knot in your stomach?

And those of us still will not bring in anyone else. We are in only to be of some comfort to those JWs still held captive, develop our exit strategy and a network of friends outside JWdom, bring our families out, and help to collapse this organization from within. After that 'we outta here.'

I agree so much with sir82, because that is what I do. Additionaly though, I do talk to people inside about these issues. But gradually so it doesn't come as a shock to them.
As far as a new date, I'm not sure even the GB is that stupid. Even die hard JWs would raise eyebrows if that happened.

Meeting Survival Guide Games to play
by unclebruce inmeeting survival guide games we play
one doesn't grow up religiously attending '5 meetings a week' without developing a strategy for survival.
mine started at about ten years of age and gradually grew more sophisticated as the years assemblies rolled by.

Turning in my elder book
by What-A-Coincidence indamm!
my good friend who became an elder just recently wants to invite me for service because he wants to talk about a few things with me.
well ... you have not commented in months!

As everyone here has been saying you can always claim that or a member of your family need to care for personal issues. Take it from an elder who still is in good standing but misses 50% of meetings, hasn't gone in door-to-door in years, and hasn't been at a book study in almost a year. My wife went to the doctor and was diagnosed with enough stuff to justify us never going to meetings again. Then we saw our psychologist and our nutritionist and my kid's pediatrician and between the depression and stress related anxiety issues, we never run out of excuses. And remember if there is a phone tie-in at your Hall, that is considered the same as attending the meeting. You can call, then hang up when they aren't monitoring it or just don't listen.

NO Kingdom Halls rebuilt or repaired in NOLA - 6 months after Katrina?
by sir82 inmy mother attends a different congregation, and they recently had a "special" saturday afternoon talk/slide show from someone who spent some time in the post-katrina society-organized relief effort.. she says that this brother reported that all of the kingdom halls in new orleans were damaged or destroyed by katrina, and that to date, none of them have been repaired or rebuilt.
the reason that was given was that all of the jws who lived in new orleans are living elsewhere, and the society has little or no idea of where they are.
if i remember correctly, the number of jws there was given as 7000(?).

I tell you, that point about kids, I do worry about. Not the kids in the congregation so much but mine. My policy at home is not to hide ANYTHING. Total honesty. That does mean some duplicity towards the Society, but at least toward my family, there is none. For what its worth I no longer feel an obligation to be loyal towards an organization. As someone said earlier it is an unnatural thing. And I think I would go crazy trying. We can show loyalty to people. So people are my focus. And that goes for my fellow elders, my friends and my family.

You know I never thought I'd be doing what I'm doing now. So in a few years I may regret this to, though I doubt it will be in favor of WT.
As for that beer, anytime.

Cheap Looking Bibles
by annalice ini have not been to a kingdom hall for several years now.
just the other day my inlaws sent my husband a new watchtower society bible .
it has the cheapest plastic cover i have ever seen.

Those Bibles are cheap looking. Amazing that they would go cheap on THEIR MAIN TEXTBOOK. I guess nothing is off limits to them. And that Awake, not much different from any other Awake. Certainly no greater emphasis on the Bible.

A 'Screw the Publishers' GB Strategy?
by metatron inwhile a man might hold a particular office, there is no guarantee that his personal faith will continue.
there are a number of older.
brothers , at bethel and elsewhere, who quietly hold to a 'it's a good life' view of the 'truth' - as opposed to the blind zombie-faith of.

The same with the 'elders'. They always kept busy DURING the meetings so they didn't have to sit still through all the crap. Same at conventions - the clever elder always volunteers for something that keeps him out of his seat.
I referred to this in my 'overdue statement post' as what I do at nearly every congregation function.
