No more book study nights !!!!!

so i went to our "last" book study night last night.

there were actually people crying during the last prayer !!!!

My Mom called me to tell me how she wished I was there. How great an experience it was. It was like saying good-bye for the last time to a loved one for her. She said she gave extra comments because she probably won't get to comment much at the large congregation book study and commenting is such a privilege. (Mind you my Mom by HER admission can't understand half of what those books are all about!)

I guess thinking back to some of the book studies I've had I might have felt the same about no longer having intimate contact with the people. It was for some like having a mini gathering once a week. Now they just have the big boring meetings.

Are you still considered an outcast because of your JW past?

even though i no longer proclaim being a jw it seems to have tarnished my relationship with others, including family and even co-workers.

I open up to my co-workers when they ask about my being a JW. Thus many have helped in my exit. Their support was/is phenomenal. Further I had made such a gradual transition that I had "worldly friends" (including co-workers) while a JW. Leaving just gave us a way to spend more time together. Its to the point now that I rarely even feel like I was a JW. (I stay in touch because of a desire to help others with my experiences, my daughter and family members, and the old friends I hope to see leave one day.) Further I deliberately didn't live in my territory so the community didn't know me as a JW. If anything I was known as the PTA President at my daughter's school. Of course it helps to live in such a crowded place like NYC. Small towns are probably very different. Now that I've moved again due to divorce I am making more new friends who know nothing of my past. My last GF knew. Now any new ones probably won't for a while as I very much want to remain an ex ex-JW. Just some of my experiences which of course do not reflect what others may be going through.

Recently Received Wacky JW Spam re: UN Destroying Religion

Talk about a ridiculous story. This guy actually believed that he was being filled in on policy? From whom? The UN is ultimately run by the Security Council's five permanent voting members. He was allegedly talking to some committee that has little to do with the UN's overall mission. And it wouldn't surprise me if that committee member was being VERY tongue-in-cheek when he made the comment. Provided that the tale is even true and not some passed down, changed a hundred times in the telling urban myth. These are the foolish stories that Witnesses rely on to validate their outlandish beliefs. No wonder they are forever getting disappointed.

i need to let you know that dad passed away this morning at 8am.

he fought so hard but in the end they could not get his blood pressure to rise and he died of heart failure.

Up to now life is going wonderful. Freedom is more than I could ever have hoped for. For 2009 I will be the best at my job that I can be, continue college, love and educate my daughter, begin a meaningful relationship with a lovely woman, and continue to educate people about the WT.

Joel Osteen on Larry KIng

i just saw joel osteen on larry king on cnn.

i don't know a lot about joel osteen.

i've never read his books or watched him on tv but i was struck with how positive he is and how upbeat and encouraging his message is.

I first saw him when I was traveling in the Mid-West. I was a dub then and I was impressed. He was tracking what I thought was the Bible's message, and particularly Christianity's much closer than WT. Now I haven't heard all his material. And quite frankly I'm through with religion. But watching him did help me when I needed some spiritual uplifting while still a JW. Isaac

he was a 'call' turned over to me by my best friend when he headed off to bethel in '73.. the first time i called there, i nearly gagged with the filthy living conditions.

i hate the religion of jehovah's witnesses.

"Side effects", that's good. Personally I don't want to see even one new person join this religion for just those "side effects". There are too many other places to go to get help. But for those already stuck in there who would self destruct if they left, well I wish them the best. Isaac

No question that the teachings regarding health (minus blood of course) and morality really help some who would self destruct otherwise. All religions have this. And that is why many will never leave, and probably shouldn't. Sadly stories like this are misused by JWs who could leave to justify their actions. "After all look at the good the JWs do!" they say. As if all the BS about 1914 and other such nonsense has anything to do with being healthy and functional. Anyway good post Jeff. Puts things in perspective. Isaac Carmignani

Turning 40... A male perspective needed pls

When I turned forty (I'm 42 now) I realized how much better life was becoming. I have my health, loads of energy. But now I have money, a stable job, and most of all experience. I can get things right the first time, rather that suffer from making a whole bunch of mistakes. I guess what I'm saying is you can benefit from your past, learn from it. You are seasoned at forty, yet you are young and energetic. At least that's how it has been for me.
