They brought some guy who is an expert in making polished mud balls. From there they went on to making a high gloss turd. I tell you I love Mythbusters. Actually it has made for some fun science ed for my daughter.

They quoted an economist? who stated what many economists said about what can happen when certain systems such as credit are abused. So that shows that these economists understood their economics. So? That says nothing about WT's ability to predict. If it did then the New York Times and other news sources who quoted the same sources are predictors of the future. And isn't it an appeal to inappropriate authority to insinuate that because WT could recognize a good quote by an astute economist, that they now know what the world's future holds?

feb 15th 2009 wt pgs 24,25. .
par 4 - subheading "jehovah trusts the slave".
after quoting ps32:8 (ot)"i shall certainly make you have insight..", the paragraph claims that jehovah provides direction to the slave, stating "we can therefore have full confidence in the scriptural insight, understanding and guidance that we receive from the slave.".
What never ceases to stun me about these articles is the lack of actual evidence and scriptures to prove their claims.
I know what you mean. I can't believe I ever read this crap. Or that I ever stuffed down my questions about it so many years ago.

thought you'd like to know about the latest fad rippling through the jw community.
it is home-based get-rich-quick business offerings.. a whois search at network solutions (http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp) shows the owner of the following websites.
it turns out this owner is a well known congregation coordinator (aka presiding overseer).. www.ontrack2succeed.com.
You know I still can't figure out what the business is. "The Secret" is not a business. My ex gave me this DVD and its about "The Law of Attraction", a metaphysical concept that stated simply is that you attract those who are like you. So if you want success, in essence you need to dress and act successfully.

this person continues to try to discredit ray franz.
for a person that is not a jw he really does not give up.. .

Having been raised "in the truth" I can say that Ray's book is far more honest (with sources cited) than Watchtower literature. Furthermore, I was aware of many situations that Ray's book made more clear.
Same sentiments here. His documentation is iron clad. Further growing up as a JW in NYC I know some of the people he discusses. He has his ducks in a row for sure.

JWs have such a double standard sometimes. I was never pitched so many get rich quick schemes until I became friends with POs and such. So long as it isn't some little old publisher doing it its always excusable.
Isaac
does anyone remember when the "so and so" congregation was called the "so and so" unit?
do you know the reasoning behind changing the terminology?
I remember hearing old timers called the congregation a unit. Never knew if it was official or not at any point in WT history.

so, the new arrangement for meetings includes a jam-packed ministry school/service meeting and book study that ends at 8:45pm in many halls - unless they go overtime!.
these geniuses tried to create a family night because they realize witness families are falling apart so they created an awfully long meeting instead that will often take place on a thursday night - just prior to friday when countless kids have tests in school scheduled!.
good for them!
These ivory tower goons don't realize that a weekly meeting that ends at 8:45 or later ( in congregations I know ) is too late for many children because they have to study and do homework and, often, get up before dawn to catch the school bus.
Any weeknight meeting is a burden on kids and families, period. A longer one instead of two is worse. I rejoice in anything that makes young Witnesses hate the meetings even more as this will lower attendance and break the zombie-like spell they have on these poor drones.
This was the big reason why I left when I did. I had a ten year old. There is no question that even when they make things "less burdensome" they are still extremely burdensome. Morons is almost too nice a term for them. It gives them too much credit.

mvs has only made 3 posts since registering in april.. i don't think mvs has been "officially" welcomed because this announcement was tucked into a post asking a question.
here is the first hello.. .
hello - i am new to the forum and continue to be an active witness for family reasons - i heard someone say that there are three classes of witnesses now - anointed, great crowd, and the conciencius class, i am the latter one..
Welcome MVS.

i have to give credit to sleepy for alerting me to this little discrepancy.
i cant believe i have never clued into the duality of freddies logic.
nevermind the jumping all over the bible between ot & nt to get his math together..... *** pe chap.
Sleepy made an excellent point about the calendars. Of course a dub would say that things like the calendar differences only introduce a small deviation, so their 1914 thing, even if off, isn't off by that much. Sleepy's resurrected post got me rersearching this stuff again on wtlib after many years of forgetting about it. What's amazing is the doublespeak. They accept "secular" chronology when it suits them and reject it when no longer convenient. They based so much on ancient documents no one is absolutely certain of, and all they have to say about that is the Bible is to be trusted regardless of anything else. They say that "critics" claim such and such, but don't go into any real detail on exactly what the critics say. No sources are given. It is sheer confusing nonsense. Finally, on how the dubs swallow this without question, they don't REALLY do the HW. Any who do become like us, ex-JWs.
