excerpt from the gospel of judas .
a talk with elaine pagels .
........ anyone who joined this movement was aware that he or she could be killed for it, as many had beenjesus' closet disciple peter was crucified by the romans, paul was beheaded, while other followers of jesus, like his brother james and his follower stephen, were lynched by public mobs and riots.
Because of the Church and subsequent events in history, many have come to believe that Jesus Christ was some holy man. But truth be told he could have been just another man who had a following, with all the associated problems that go along with that including dissent. If anyone in our modern day claimed any of the things that Christ is said to have claimed or been, we'd see him or her as a "nut", maybe even a cult leader. People adore these characters only because they are ancient and we have no way of knowing the full facts. So people (religious and non-religious) select those that they believe most probable. But human nature being what it is the likelihood is that Jesus was more as described above than any holy individual.
i may have described the players in this story long ago, and changed the details to hide who i am.. i don't really worry about it anymore, and i don't want to look back over two years to see if i changed the details.
the following is true, and the sex and age and situation of each person is pretty accurate despite any details seeming different from before:.
my nephew is 14 years old, he's my wife's sister's boy.
I'm always afraid of this for my daughter. I know the feeling. People once hooked on the WT often feel comfort in that they "have the truth" even if they personally fall "short of the mark of perfection". It's part of the problem many of us who broke free will probably always face.
yes, i too have wondered how an assembly that is held in a fully paid for assembly hall, with no food service, could possibly have $10,000 in expenses.
i suppose the bethel speakers have transportation expenses - maybe $1000 or so.
as for rent on the assembly hall, well you have already paid for it once, why pay again?
This fellow has pretty much got it. And once the Hall is paid up much of the expenses are then given to maintenance, renovations, insurance, etc. That is where the publisher rate comes from. The assembly Hall includes ALL expenses into that rate, including any running of the building during the week which usually isn't much in the way of use. For what it's worth most people never see large bills for utilities and so forth on an institutional scale and so it seems like a lot. I know because I spent five years working in just about every phase of Assembly Hall work. Even so there is room for graft and it has taken place, if only because transparency is not a concept most JWs understand or require when it comes to their religion. There is often little incentive to save money on things. Also, many of these Halls have large cash reserves, something that VERY few JW's realize as those funds are not reported on accounts rerports to the congregations. And of course there is no transparency in connection with the Worldwide Work donations.

They will probably win this. But it's nice to see that the town is not just caving in. I think some of the Brooklyn boys didn't think this through very well. They bought property without getting the zoning right. They may end up paying for that.
the following quote is taken from the article is it wrong to change your religion?
in the july 2009 awake p29:
no one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family.
Liars!!!! Somewhat off topic but related, you might have noticed that they have Indians, or at least South Asians in the photographs. Those of you here who are familiar with WT's publishing tactics probably realize that this is targeted at that audience. Dubs in places like NYC use pictures like that to draw in foreigners. And most expatriate South Asians read English. I point this out because the WT is so good at targeting people who are too new to the West to know much about their reputation and cultish ways. More taking advantage of innocents.

feel free !.
DAMN Ziddina, your first post still has me drooling I mean amazed! Anyway back on topic...
Topics like this make me feel like I'm bragging so I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm an excellent listener, intelligent, capable with tools and technology and a good father. That's about it.

more of the latest from the june 15th " witness only " watchtower.
under the article " the faithful steward and it's governing body " there were some very telling quotes which could indicate how the wt society is tightening the control of it's members - and trying to justify more partaking of the emblems at the memorial since the numbers partaking have gone up from about 8,000 to 10,000 since they no longer feel that the sealing of the anointed ended in 1935.. so first off, notice this quote indicating the importance of elevating the governing body over the rest of the anointed around the earth.
paragraph 16 it states , " are all these anointed ones throughout the earth part of a global network that is somehow involved in revealing new spiritual truths ?
They have been getting so much well thought criticism of the fact that they don't have any network of "anointed" like they implied over the years. Why Ray brought this out over twenty years ago. Its high time that they explained it. Its false logic of course. After all how do you represent a group when you have no clue who they are? Where they live? What their concerns are? But the gullible, controlled dubs will look the other way. Of course there will be the few who will see this for what it is....

so after the meeting yesterday we went for coffee, nice group.
two baptized more than 40 years, one baptized 20 years, one baptized 11 years, and one study that was invited.. someone had picked up the 6/15 wt so i said, "wow, what do you think about new light?
" they said, "what new light?
You know, this sounds so much like one of those old Star Trek episodes where the Captain is around controlled people and he has to be real careful because the slightest comment can set them off. JWs are so conditioned to think a certain way and go after any dissenters, sometimes they can't even recognize when their own leadership are the ones making the changes.
