The "Society" was sort of taboo down here in NYC. The proper turn of phrase was "the slave".

Do Not Say: "The Society Teaches"!
by compound complex inwt 1998 - 3/15 p.19 .... .
"in order to avoid misunderstandings, jehovahs witnesses try to be careful about how they express themselves.
instead of saying, "the society teaches," many witnesses prefer to use such expressions as, "the bible says" or, "i understand the bible to teach.

jvchap.15p.219DevelopmentoftheOrganizationStructure***To keep matters in proper perspective, however, it was pointed out that when TheWatchtower referred to “The Society,” this meant, not a mere legal instrumentality, but the body of anointed Christians that had formed that legal entity and used it. Thus the expression stood for the faithful and discreet slave with its Governing Body.

MJ's kids to be raised by Katherine Jackson and possibly as JW's
by fern ini just read on the accesshollywood website that michael jackson wanted his kids to be raised by his mother if anything happened to him.
those poor children will now have to endure an even more bizarre and f***ed up chilhood than before.
i feel bad for them.

Missing School Functions
by WTWizard ini know that the witlesses are not supposed to go to many school activities.
these include after-school sports and competitions, scouting, and other extra-curricular activities and class trips that may last beyond school hours.
the most cited excuses (flimsy they may be) are bad associations, the money, time, and the possibility of compromise.. now, i wonder how many people have missed field trips that happened during normal school hours because of being witlesses.

My Mom would keep me out all the time. Every school assembly or play she would pull me when I was in grade school. It was pathetic.

M. JACKSON FUNERAL WILL BE AN EXCELLENT WITNESS!!!!
by whereami inwas at the hall and all the dubs were talking about was that michael jacksons funeral will serve as a "huge witness to the world".. do you really think the boys in brooklyn will use this as a perfect opportunity do make a "good witness"?.

Yeah a witness to what? These people are so mindless. What would a funeral "witness"? Oh maybe show that JW's are normal people? Not. Show that their stupid prophecies are about to be fulfilled? Not. That he will get a resurrection? How do you prove that?

Remember that many families shun because WT tells them to. The GB could stop much of this simply by changing their rules.

To a Witness, JW doctrines are like the law of gravity
by BonaFide indo you ever get together and bring up the subject of whether or not the law of gravity is true or not?.
neither do i.. and that's how most witnesses view their doctrines.
there is no discussion to be had, there's nothing to talk about.

Absolutely, in terms of their view of doctrine. In fact this is a big part of their brand. And what attracts many to it. They treat doctrine as a hard science. Very analytically, even if the rationale is circular. Note how they're always analyzing ancient Hebrew and Greek.

My Thoughts on Michael Jackson
by Dogpatch inmy personal impressions of michael jackson have only changed over the years because of his obsessions and because of the molestation accusations.
but michael was a real genius artist and a one-of-a-kind.
it's kind of a sad story, really, because all the time as a jehovah's witness i could see how he would be miserable - being brought to fame instantly, having to grow up without a childhood, and being haunted by that very deprivation the rest of his life... to the point of consuming him completely in seeking his lost childhood.

Interesting piece there on his pioneering. How could anyone push a child like this. The music, then the JW stuff. When does the kid get a break? I really think MJ was like the canary in the coal mine. Many are. They can't get past it. And we should not condemn them. rather their dysfunction should serve as a warning. Because we and our loved ones may be less vulnerable, but not invulnerable.
