He was a strange character that no one should ever have left children with. Let's say for argumentary purposes that he was not guilty. Still why allow that much unmonitored intimacy between one's child and someone so scarred? Just because he is famous is no excuse. It's asking for something to go wrong. Look at all that did happen, from porn to alcohol. I mean that's bad enough. I would rather proactively keep my child away from someone who may problems like this than take the chance. His guilt we will never know for certain. That's the nature of this type of situation. We can only have an opinion on it's probability. But that is why we need to be extra cautious with our children.

Well Wobble, one step at a time. The wheels of justice may grind slowly, but they do grind. This is big! It's one thing for lower courts to give court orders in individual cases. That's been happening for years. But a Supreme Court in ANY Western land making a decision like this will introduce precedent. WT prides itself in Supreme Court victories. Now it has a loss to ponder. No appeals. This will trickle down for sure into other Canadian cases. I wonder how it will affect the Hughes case....

I have no doubt that Michael Jackson was this type of molester. I believe he truly enjoyed spending time with children. And I believe that he could have been in total denial that sexual touching was hurting the child. Sad.
This is exactly what I'm referring to COULD have been the case with MJ. He seemed so naive and out of touch that it seems plausible he could have this view. I've had this happen in my own family and have seen it firsthand.

Not only doesn't a settlement equate guilt, for anyone including JW elders, but MJ was not an organization with double tongued policies. He was by all accounts, a naive kid of a man, who probably lacked good judgment in many areas. His friends describe him as intensely lonely, unable to really interact with adults. Mouthy is absolutely correct. Love needs to expressed for BOTH. That is the Christian way and the humane way. In the end MJ is gone and can do no new harm to anyone, if indeed he ever did.

There is no question that his family life, and most likely his own personal makeup, were big contributors to what he was. Perhaps even bigger than the JW's. Otherwise every person in his situation would be the same as he was. But why couldn't this "wonderful organization" help him. After all the FDS provides "food in due season". They sure missed out here. We can just imagine the conflict this poor guy went through. I doubt it's coincidence that one of the strangest brilliant people in our time was also some form of dub.

A Few Thoughts on Michael Jackson
by jamiebowers inthe talking heads on television are busy lamenting michael jackson as a tragic figure regarding his lack of a childhood due to his super stardom.
that all may be true, but mj was destined to somewhat lose out on childhood by virtue of his birth into a jw family.
i'm not a born in, but i've read enough of their posts to know what torture it is to be one.

Jamie, this is exactly what I feel. No real mention is made of his JW roots. But that must have affected him. We will never know how and to what extent. But it can't be coincidence that someone so strange in many of his ways, was a born-in dub. Dubs who are "half in, half out" as they probably were sometimes suffer more as they try to reconcile a double life.

“I
WouldNeverDoItAgain!”
In another popular video, Thriller, the performer is seen to transform first into a “cat person,” then a dancing “monster.” Evidently not wanting viewers to conclude that it promoted spiritism, the film begins with the disclaimer: “Due to my strong personal convictions, I wish to stress that this film in no way endorses a belief in the occult.—Michael Jackson.” Nevertheless, it was so realistic that some who saw it admitted that they were horrified at first. What was this short film intended to convey? And how does the performer, Michael Jackson, feel about it in looking back?
“I would never do it again!” says Jackson. “I just intended to do a good, fun short film, not to purposely bring to the screen something to scare people or to do anything bad. I want to do what’s right. I would never do anything like that again.” Why not? “Because a lot of people were offended by it,” explains Jackson. “That makes me feel bad. I don’t want them to feel that way. I realize now that it wasn’t a good idea. I’ll never do a video like that again!” He continues: “In fact, I have blocked further distribution of the film over which I have control, including its release in some other countries. There’s all kinds of promotional stuff being proposed on Thriller. But I tell them, ‘No, no, no. I don’t want to do anything on Thriller. No more Thriller.’”

As I posted on the other thread...
Here's to Michael Jackson, , a young JW who was a victim of that vicious doublespeak. Someone who could never stabilize after being exposed to such dissonant thinking. He MAY have done the bad things attributed to him. But let us never forget from where he came. For those interested, a NYC radio station KTU, is celebrating his life by playing his music till midnight. The link to listen live is here: http://www.ktu.com/main.html
