Everywhere I been. It's not written as a rule to my knowledge but I suspect it was a suggestion made by "mama" way back when and adhered to ever since.

every congregation i have attended this is the case.
i was wondering if this is just a local thing or if it is an unwritten rule worldwide?.

anyone remember that?
i learned to read on that book.there were some very disturbing images, like the earth opening up and people falling into it.like upside down ladies and hippies.id love to get a hold of one and peruse it with a friend and some herbal medicine.maybe there is one in the attic?anyway, that and the image of the snake talking to the beautiful, bare shouldered eve,who was holding an apple, made a big impression on me.any else have any faves from that book?is it still being used?.
Miss.Fit I had similar experiences. I grew up on that book. 9/11 and the Towers falling down felt eerily similar to how I felt when looking as a kid as the pictures in that book of buildings toppling.

i admit that i do enjoy it, especially with my grandkids.
birthdays, too.. i believe we missed out on a lot of fun and normal activities because we were witnesses..
While I can easily forget them, my birthday just passed and we didn't do much, I enjoy them quite a bit. Particularly now since my second wife and family were never JWs.

does anybody remember the old apostate guy they called mr. coffee?
back in the late 80s when i was at brooklyn he would dress in a suit, have a book bag, and come and stand in front of the 124 bldg or sometimes over by the towers hotel.
he'd easily put in auxillary pioneer hours.
Oh what fond memories! I would walk down to Bethel doing street work with my buddy and saw Coffee many a time. I remember we'd get these sandwiches at a nearby deli. One day I had a ham sandwich and he got on my case about it, not sure why though.

goatshapeddemons mention of chess being banned by jw's at one time was a new one to me.
it got me thinking.
they never corrected that did they?
Damn, that's why I fidn't learn chess! Let alone learn about sports. My Mom took all of this stuff super serious. I learning now how to play chess and sports, particularly following sports. Those competitive teams with fierce names like the Lions....

i'd like to throw something out to the exelders.. over the years since i stepped down as an elder, my dislike for the society and its ways has clearly grown.. but my love for the bible and my family and friends in the congregation has not got less.. i feel sorry that they are not mature enough to grasp the concept that you dont need the society to make god happy.. so i have been thinking ( and its just a crazy thought at the moment ) to requalify as an elder and to begin to really teach the truth.. to really challenge their thinking and take my talks to the limit without getting busted as a heretic.. whats youre thought?.
.
.
I would say this: You'll have a hard time avoiding talks that expound teaching that bother you. You would have to climb up the ranks and be on the level of a congregation coordinator so that you could pick your parts. And that doesn't cover shepherding calls and judicial committees where you may feel very conflicted. It's a hard thing to do. I did it for several years.

hey,.
i've been lurking on this website for a few years now and finally made an account.
i have serious doubts about the organization in general and still have not made up my mind about what to believe.
Welcome Nancy, look forward to seeing you around here.

from http://www.jw.org/en/news/events-activities/annual-meeting-report-2012/.
when does jesus appoint the slave over all his belongings?.
in those verses, jesus is referring to his coming as judge during the great tribulation.matthew 24:30; 25:31, 32.. jesus appointment of the slave over his belongings, then, must also be a future event.
This is actually BIG! What pray tell is the FDS role now?
