Has being a JW made you a better person?
by lfcviking inok most of us here on this board (including me) have got our grumbles with the wt for various reasons but please consider this:.
if you came into the 'truth' from the world at whatever point on your life and and have since then left the 'truth', do you think that you are a better person now than before you joined?.

Like the others, I would honestly have to answer, no.
I used to think that being a JW was an advantage and that having a JW Bible education was useful.
But now after six years out I think I was wrong. I actually have been DISADVANTAGED by spending so much time inside a kingdum hall. Oh maybe in a big Bible trivia quiz I might guess the million dollar winning question. But when is that ever going to happen?
"Tell us Anewme, for ONE MILLION DOLLARS, which foot of the Lord was washed first by the unnamed prostitute?" "Was it his left or his right?" "You have ten seconds to give your answer" "Audience, please remain quiet" "For one million dollars Anewme, what is your answer?"
It has taken years to de-program myself and think clearly without the JW doctrine restraint. My concept of God and the world and society has had to play catch up with reality.
Actually I think the pain of the DFing process made me a better person! Having survived it, I am stronger, more astute, more outspoken, suspicious of organizations, but kinder and gentler towards mankind in general.
Thanks for asking!

Whats the funniest thing you've ever seen happen in the KH?
by shell69 ini remember being a kid and we didnt have the fancy fabric seats, they were plastic stackable chairs all set out in the usual lines.. an elderly bro, rather rotund, farted, the noise so loud and thundering against the plastic seat!
or the time when i must have been about 7, my dad brought his bible study family to their first ever meeting, i had to sit on mums knee.
i recall giving the daughter of the new family a very vigorous v sign during the meeting.

Funny thread! Brought back the memories! Some not so good though.
It was awful after the funny incident was over and you had to go back to the boring meeting.
Those meetings just beat the life out of me.

Are You Sure That You Don't Still Think & Act Like A Jehovah's Witness?

Just the other day I realized that I have established certain relationships with my relatives based on a very passive trusting mild pushover submissive personality that I developed to a nauseating degree during my 35 years as a slave of the Watchtower.
I am being consciously assertive with these folks now and they dont like the change.
I am aware during a conversation how I used to think, behave and react, but then remember that I am free to be me and express my true feelings.
Sometimes I even surprise myself with what thoughtful wisdom comes out of my heart these days now that I am free to think for myself. -

''You are Beautiful...''
by eclipse ini am so broken hearted.... i feel so horrible for the people who yell and scream at me:.
''you know it's the truth!

Yes, thankyou Eclipse for reminding us that we are beautiful and so is everyone else.
We have been terribly hurt by a certain religion havent we?
A friend of mine is studying the new Catholicism and I am amazed at the new holistic view it promotes.
My heart on one side desires to try again to immerse myself in a huge spiritual community which
believes the individual matters and is beautiful to God. But on the other side of my heart I have become distrustful and am reluctant to lay bare my heart and soul and be vulnerable to another church.
If I believe I am beautiful and that God accepts my song of praise and I live my life in a way I think he approves, then that is enough for me.
We have all come a long way from the "dark days are here, man lives in fear, sin and vexation, never takes vacation" or something like that! Remember those old dreary songs? On the contrary I believe that God is love and and forgiving and not keeping count of our sins. He looks for the best in us.

What a rotten thing to happen to such a sweet old lady!
There is some sort of message here but what?
I think someone said that the boys behaved badly and cowardly, but the people on the bus were kind and considerate. Thats how it is. Two kinds in the world.
Naive people trust. Burned people wont anymore. Both see the world in black and white. People are all this or all that. Neither is correct.
Jesus taught us to pray to be delivered from evil. That is all you can do.
That and pack a gun.
