You dont have to be nicey nicey and waste time with people you dont want to. You can learn to effectively communicate your need to be efficient with your time and energies.
1. Screen your calls. Allow an phone answering machine to do that for you.
2. When friends try and make arrangements with you that sound like a waste of time, beg off and say you are just swamped with school work.
3. When Joe Blow on the street wants to chit chat, say "Gotta go man"
4. Effective communication expressed consistently will produce the desired results in your life very shortly.
You are currently focused on your goal of education and some diploma. People respect that and understand.
You have the rest of your life to loaf and play.....but with a career under your belt and money in your pocket!

"Question Authority"(think for yourself) is it a good or bad idea?
by frankiespeakin inwhat your opinion?.
should we question religous authority only?
what about governmental authority?
-
anewme
Boy am I a believer now in questioning all authority!
Those who do are less likely to fall prey to all the little dictators everywhere out there!
They are everywhere! In religion, in government, at work, in your neighborhood and sometimes in your own family, trying to control and imprison everyone and everything around them. -

I do.
Im still holding out hope that something will make me absolutely certain of it someday.
There is just too much evidence of God in creation for me to personally deny an intellectually superior deity out there. -

I don't know why I never picked up the tobacco habit...
by Gregor inwhen i was a small child one of my earliest memories is watching my father make a cigarette.
the wts had not yet made smoking a df'ing offense.
we were always poor and dad didn't spend money on ready made cigarettes.

I too always thought the habit to be cool. My mom looked cool when she smoked. My Dad looked rugged when he did. But I was always very conscientious. "Dont be a litter bug" and "Smoking kills" were the slogans I grew up with and embraced. Then of course when I became a JW it was just a perfect evolution for the little prude I became.
Then when I found myself on the outside of the organization I thought why not? Why not give freedom a try?
So I tried a couple of cigarettes. Tried real hard to inhale, but (*cough* *cough*) I couldnt do it!!!
They were just NASTY!
For awhile I even dreamed of smoking. In my dreams I took great drags off cigarettes and waited for a rush of some kind that never came. I always woke up confused if I had really smoked or not.
Cant say why or where those dreams came from. All I know is that I am over all that long overdue rebellion I went through at 48 years old when I left the JWs. My God! A true mid life crisis!
Well its over and I am calm and no longer have to prove my freedom.
I am truly free.

I want to live ...
by compound complex init's not so much that i wanted to die; i simply did not want to live.
the hope of living forever - while an impetus to my strained level of endurance of trials in "the present system of things" - frequently seemed insufficient to bolster my flagging spirit.
yet wasn't my own loving and generous earthly father, who never failed me in any respect, an example of what jehovah himself would do for me - even if i must wait a bit longer?.

FOR DUMMIES: Jehovah Has ALWAYS Used an Organization. Not!!
by Open mind inhow many times have you heard this from a jw?:.
"jehovah has always worked through an organization!
now i've heard plenty of rebuttals of this on jwd, but last night i thought of another way to look at it.

"Jehovah has always used an organization"
My God, I could make stuff up too and start my own religion!
They have skilled writers and idea men and they sit around making this crap up and dishing it out as sacred scripture and new light. Its just awful that me, you and millions of others were so stupid and naive to believe all their malarky.
They are using tricks and persuasion and intellectual and spiritual dishonesty to achieve their goals to rope the public into slavery to them. -

Who cares? I mean really!
Ask yourself, what harm does it do? What good does it do? Does it bring families together?
Does it promote love? What are your personal feelings about a festivity?
Thats how I deal with holidays now.
I dont celebrate easter at all. Thats just me.
I dont celebrate Mardi Gras.
I dont do fathers day or mothers day mainly because I do not have either anymore.
I did a couple of personal birthdays, but I think I will drop my b-day just because I really dont like celebrating it like I thought I would.
To me, Christmas is about friends, families and the poor and getting together and exchanging love and making sure each is fed and fat during the cold winter months. God gave us Christ out of love, so we honor that great gift by giving to each other and being generous like Him. I know that sounds retardo simplistic but I think thats about as much thought as most give it.
I try NOT TO OVER-THINK things anymore like the JWs do. They have over-thought themselves into one hell of a weird no fun organization!
If God isnt stopping the wars and death going on I dont think he is too miffed about a little old christmas tree. I say enjoy your life and celebrate good times with friends!
