in nigeria, a bus carrying mostly jehovah's witness women, collided with a large truck on a return trip from a wedding ceremony.

24 died; doctors at a hospital are trying to save 13 others.

we were pretty well against organized religion of any sort.

i got 85% in my first assignment - arts and humanities and i enjoyed every minute of it.. the best part is that my jdub hubby and i have new enjoyable interests in common as we have found that we both like visitng art galleries and other leisure activities.. thank you all for helping me get here so quickly.

of course that isn't to say that everything is all plain sailing (far from it) but its nice to feel out of the woods!.

Dont know your situation but it sounds like you are finding a way to keep your marriage and your sanity for a while at least.

Sometimes the solution to a problem is not readily apparent. But proceeding slowly and carefully one can sometimes come up with a breakthrough idea that becomes the workable solution.

Couples who have lots of interests in common have much more happiness in their marriages.

Is JWD #1.....My Therapist....his first advice on JW's, me, and divorce

i have told my new therapist so much about jwd, some of the insightful comments here, and how much it has helped me and other dubs that we both now wonder if there are other jw help sites.

i really don't know as this was the first and only one i ever found, and it was just what i needed.. he has pegged me well as impatient, and knows i was vocal about my wake-up from jw.

his advice right now is to back off totally on trying to help any others, and i have told him that many here have said no one will wake-up until they want to for some reason.

Dear Oompa, I am not an advice giver normally. But having gone through the disfellowshipping and divorce scene and loss of family and friends I do have a viewpoint now.

I think your therapist is giving you good advice. I think the therapist likes you and hopes by slowing you down you will find your own middle of the road path to succeed in keeping your family intact and keeping your mind sound.

You do not need to be the crusader of truth to the world. You are not assigned the task to correct everyone. It is not necessary.

I wish somebody had slowed me down.

I found a therapist at Kaiser who actually suggested I divorce. So there are those therapists who in their professional opinion feel that sometimes it is better for an individual to end an impossible marriage and situation. But yours feels that you would be better off if you curbed your zeal to enlighten the rest of the family and avoid a big confrontation. I wish my old therapist had expressed more insight and wisdom. But even so, with my disaster behind me, I have found a life again. So it is possible, but surely a painful path.

I always think of Galileo who found himself at odds with the Catholic Church of his day. They insisted he recant his theories or face the inquisitioner's torture. Wisely he decided that truth will be uncovered in due time and that he neednt sacrifice his life and freedom for it.

Also I have found that by slowing down and thinking over and over about a problem or dilemma we often get a breakthrough in our understanding and perceptions that is totally suprising---- a solution that may never have occurred to us before! A workable solution!!!

I hope this happens for you dear Oompa.

And these are very stressful times we live in and those of us who are sensitive souls are benefited by mild meds these days. Take them if they help you to cope with your stresses.

I have never read much of Carl Sagan. We were not encouraged to as JWs.

But he is respected so much as an astronomist and intellectual.

I think he expressed his thoughts so well in your excerpt.

I would like to read more of his thoughts.

I will inquire about his book The Pale Blue Dot.

why is it that people seem to get so much more offended?

is it that we have so may rules and laws in place now that some of these offenses should not be happening anymore?.

we don't seem to be a people that has much tolerance anymore.. for people to learn, to have another opinion, to be immature, to be old, to have a bad day.. if there is an invasion of bounderies, then surely the person knew better.. by now everyone should be informed!!!!

they should know better.. everyone before us has figured it all out so we should know!.

I agree with you Purple Sofa! Where are the voices to calm everyone down?

In my everyday dealing with people I try to be that voice.

When standing in line I try hard to be calm and confident that we will be served when it is our time.

When in traffic I allow for the next driver's poor eyesight or timidity...or for their youthful devil may care attitude.

I am always making allowances for others and contemplating what may be behind the attitude or remark.

Are others doing that anymore?

Maybe because I have been through so much.
Life, though filled with trouble is so precious, sweet and short. We must treasure each moment and interaction and breath of it, though painful.

I just cant live any other way. Believe me I tried. When I was first dfd I was mad and tried to live mad, angry and snotty and uncaring. But I was miserable doing so. I missed the old me, the sweet me who I had confidence in, and who I was familiar with and who I respected.

Once again, I pretend I do not hear the offense nor am I conscious of any error.

I have decided to live like this because the alternative is too dismal for me personally.
I would be giving up who I am.

I want to live in a world of mercy and love.

So I must be the first to show it.
