Hi

Does anyone remember the US version of a British tv programme following a group of children every 7 years?

To the best of my recollection one of the participants was the son of JW's and filming followed him when he was 7 going door knocking. What I remember was that he didn't ask for money for the mags while we here in the UK still were selling them.

Then 7 years later he was shown going hunting with a gun. Again to us Brits that was tantamount to being a member of the IRA or an armed robber. Why would a 'brother' of all people have a gun? Hunting viewed differently here I think. Then I think when he returned 7 years later aged 21 he appears to have turned into a semi recluse.

Don't remember any more. Anyone else?

Are JW's to associate with homosexuals?

non jw family are arranging a get-together for the long time no see homosexual former partner of my uncle.. my 'elder' father and mother are invited and will probably attend.. what i would like to know is has the 'society' ever said anything to make this a no-no?.

The women at JWD are a large army.

because of the constraints on women in the watchtower society with regard to being in positions of visible authority (eldership and teaching, talks etc) i would say that most of us never got to see the potential input that the 'sisters' could have made to sharing knowledge and teaching.

sure some 'sisters' could give good no 3 and 4 talks but that was about it.. however since coming to this site i cannot help but have respect for the many women that post here.

their depth of intellect and knowledge is much appreciated.. (of course i am assuming that they are women from their avatars and names.).

Why did you want to be an elder?

i'm curious to know reasons for wanting to be an elder?.

some have expressed to me they wanted to use their abilities to help others.. another said he wanted to be in the inner circle to make sure he was able to look after his families' interests in the event of any future mishaps by his children.. i think many just get caught in the web of handling microphones, then ministerial servant then elder.. i know it's easy for me to say as i wasn't any of these (apart from microphones) but .

i can't help thinking for most men it is simply helping to fulfill a desire for more power.. many don't seem content to be viewed as a mere publisher but want to get in on the action, knowing all the gossip and being involved on decisions.. is it true that deep down, even though most may have good motives, it is still out of a feeling of self importance.. thanks .

Need to get hold of record cards. Help from current or recent elders needed

my brother-in-law and sister-in-law are on the fade and part of the plan is moving congregations to another part of the country.

the po is asking them which congregation to forward the record cards to.

bro in law doesn't want the record cards sent but wants to say that he'll take them and give them to the new po.

as they haven't decided which congregation in the new city they are going to join. (You get the picture)

Question: Can the PO refuse to give them to Bro in law? Is there some protocol that the PO has to follow

preventing him from not sending them to the new congregation?

Any advise from current or recent elders would be appreciated.

i am going to approach my parents (dad an elder) later this summer with my true feelings about the wt society.

i have the cd rom and a lot of society books (plus of course the off limits wonders of google) but i happen to have just one bound volume of the watchtower 1953. it's a real gem!.

i intend to bring this book to my meeting with them as they won't be able to say it's apostate.

I have the CD rom and a lot of Society books (plus of course the off limits wonders of Google) but I happen to have just one bound volume of the Watchtower 1953. It's a real gem!

I intend to bring this book to my meeting with them as they won't be able to say it's apostate. I'm then going to introduce my own collection of quotes that I have compiled and printed from the CD rom which is like a mini printed version of the old Quotes website.

Anyway the following quotes are ones that I will point out to my parents when I get the chance. The first two quotes are on facing pages of the magazine so are easy to show someone the point I'm trying to get across.

So the task is not easy. But we can do it if we first learn what God’s Word says, learn what is in that book and learn which way to take and then seek to do it. We must seek to be genuine Christians in every sense of the word. Does that mean we have to join a church organization in Christendom? Ask yourself now, Did Christ Jesus, who set our example and told us to follow his example to gain life, join any church organization in his day? No, God does not require us to do that; but he requires us to worship him, to preach the good news of the Kingdom, to be Christians, to follow the example Jesus set, living in unalterable devotion to Jehovah God; to praise God and respect his supremacy, to resist all efforts to turn us from decency and to endure in faith. We have the Bible to show us the right way. Certainly it is not necessary for a person to become a member of a church to gain everlasting life

JEHOVAH God has created man with a mind to think with. He can use this mind to reason. He can consider opinions of others and can determine for himself what is right and wrong. This means that he can progress by learning, as well as discard old, worn-out conclusions, proved to be erroneous. However, many refuse to utilize their mind and rather permit others to think for them. When new ideas are advanced they are at first, and in many instances always, rejected. Early in the fourteenth century (A. D.) the people lived in great ignorance as compared with our present day. They depended upon their professors and theologians, who in turn relied upon the published discoveries of men who lived prior to their time, many of which discoveries were foundationless. When some new ideas were presented, the theologians of the day rejected them.

3 Strange as it seems, we are living in a similar condition today. Many people do not use their minds, but rather let others think for them. When sound reasoning is presented that disproves a popular conception or what someone has taught them, they refuse it. They live and die, still clinging to what is false.

I am hoping these quotes and others that I have bookmarked in this one bound volume will be the opener for me to discuss the lie of the WT.
