I emailed a university in Arizona about 2 years ago as they seem to be involved in this tree ring research and asked some professorwas there any proof for the trees concerned being submerged for up to a year in water about 4300 years ago. I didn't think I would get an answer but a very short reply came back....................'No, none whatsoever.'

Can JW's attend Funerals for ex Jw's?

there was a funeral for an ex elder recently.

out of about 150 attending the service only 5 jw's who weren't immediate family attended.

this is because the ex elder was viewed as 'turning his back on big j'.

There was a funeral for an ex elder recently. Out of about 150 attending the service only 5 JW's who weren't immediate family attended. This is because the ex elder was viewed as 'turning his back on Big J'. He was not disfellowshipped as far as I know but he was unofficially viewed as 'Apostate' for daring to speak the bleedin' obvious. He had stopped attending maybe 2 years ago but since then developed a fatal illness.

I had aurguement with one of my relatives still in for not attending and showing support for the bereaved family. It appears all the years of friendship counted for nothing. I believe no JW's attended for fear of being seen attending. I know though that deep down some must have felt shame for not showing respect and support to the widow for a man who suffered greatly at the end of his life.

Are there any guidelines in their literature as what to do in these circumstances.

How many meetings could you miss in a row and no questions asked?

how many consecutive meetings could you miss without the elders making a funny face next time they saw you?.

usually if i missed 3 meetings in a row or if the elders didn't see me for a whole week, it would show on their face at the next meeting.. then if i attended 3 in a row, their smiles came back.

I started to notice at my old Hall that we never seemed to have all 7 elders present for any of the meetings. We were short every week. So I started to keep a record of which elders missed the meetings. I kept this up for 13 straight weeks before I missed a meeting myself and so couldn't keep an accurate record. In those 13 weeks we never had all the elders present. Not once. There was always at least 2 missing every meeting and usually 3 or 4 missing.

The best bit was the Presiding Overseer missed 10 straight Sunday meetings. I mentioned this to my mother who wouldn't believe me.

British Asians and Pets

as many are aware there is a large asian 'community' in great britain, indian, pakistani and bangladeshi.

in my line of work i have been into the homes of many but only today did it occur to me that i have never and i mean never met an asian family with pets.

am i just not aware or is it something that isn't done, in particular with the muslim 'community'.. thanks.

How Long Would They Last Without The Society?

following on a little from 2 topics (xjw critical mass) and (the real reason jw's don't accept blood) sorry but don't know how to show the links, i got to thinking: .

if the society were to finish publishing and closed down because of say bankruptcy from lawsuits, how long do you think the worldwide brotherhood would last?.

i feel this is a good question to ask those still in.would they still worship jehovah without the rigmarole of 5 meetings, personal study and preaching work and the monthly kingdom ministry and other regular literature.

I feel this is a good question to ask those still in.Would they still worship Jehovah without the rigmarole of 5 meetings, personal study and preaching work and the monthly Kingdom Ministry and other regular literature. Surely they would have to carry on to prove they really do follow Big J and not the Society. I think that it would collapse within 12 months.

I'm sure the circumstances of those behind the Iron Curtain could be used to show that brothers would carry on but surely they still had occassional new literature. If the Society said there is no more printing and not going to be any in the future please read your Bibles instead how long do you think? Could this scenario be put in an 'innocent' way to those still in to try and get them to think about what they worship?
