Are we prey for the taking, from people in other religions?
by free2beme inwhen i told people i was no longer a witness, i had some weird things happen with people in other religions.
one, i had a sister of one my friends call me and offer to bring a de-programmer to my house to help me learn the truth about jesus christ.
sounded like a programing, and not a de-programing.

I think alot of the attention an exjw gets from another religion is if the ex seems lost and confused and deeply unhappy and flapping around in a drowning motion.
This only brings out their true concern and evangelism.
When I left I told very few people and only those who were neutral religiously.
I think to be pulled and tugged at by other religions would be a very uncomfortable situation indeed! -

What's the deal
by searching4? ini have seen ( in various threads) many conflicting views about disfellowshipped people and thier families who are still witnesses.
does the society dissaprove of witness family members continuing to associate with disfellowshipped ones, or do they leave it up to each ones conscience?
i have been disfellowshipped for 13 years and my mom is still a witness.

I posted on another thread that while I was still attending the hall I saw one family lose 5 of its members to disfellowshipping over the course of years. Never did the family shun their wayward member. In the presence of the congregation they acted formal, but away from the hall in their own homes it was family as usual. Mind you these were all grown adults living in their various homes. Contact and support was maintained with adult siblings and their children. The result was that ALL RETURNED TO THE RELIGION AND WERE REINSTATED!
I was amazed. Even a couple who both divorced and married others and who had children with the new spouses got back together again! This family, who I used to view as weak, I now view as strong in family values!
None were elders, nor pioneers, nor ministerial servants, so none had privileges to lose by speaking and encouraging each other.
Different people have widely different experiences, dont they? -

I would lie in bed in my sweethearts arms, kissing him constantly, while praying silently to my God, until I closed my eyes and breathed a sigh, "At last".

This was a topic from yesterday that intrigued me. I think it is interesting that Dfed struggles with the grey area issues. Faithful men of old did the same.
Just a few come to mind.
Jacob loved his daughter Dinah, but when she had relations with Schechem and he wanted to marry her. I'm sure he struggled with his feelings. He sat with Schechem and his father and they talked of an alliance.
But before Jacob was able to deal with it as a man of God, his hot headed sons took matters into their own hands and slew all the males of the tribes and took the wives and children and goods.
What would Jacob have done do you think if his sons had not gotten involved?????
Another faithful person, Joseph wondered about Mary when she told him she was pregnant by holy spirit.
In his heart, he decided NOT TO GO TO THE ELDERS FOR BECAUSE OF BEING ENGAGED SHE WOULD SURELY BE DISGRACED AND DISFELLOWSHIPPED. It says this spiritual man decided to divorce her secretly, so she would appear as an unmarried woman and the law would provide she should marry the man who impregnated her.
When Darius decreed a 30 day prohibition against praying to another God, Daniel had to think what he should do? He could have prayed silently in his heart on his bed before sleep, but chose to carry on as usual.
What about David and the showbread? He and his men were dying from hunger and exhaustion. He had to use his head what to do, not based on the teachings, but his own heart and knowledge of God's personality and the principle behind things.
These men used their hearts and minds and pondered what to do when no one could tell them what to do.
Another man, Eli, might not wanted to appear harsh to his sons. He may have been very lenient in teaching his sons and the result was that his sons did not learn the principles behind the worship to God and so abused their priestly privilege and disrespected God.
There are many many other examples of individuals who used their trained consciences to make decisions.
Today is the same. We need to use our own hearts and minds to decide how we will live our lives when there are those times when there is no direct scripture to tell us what to do. -

Small (toy) dogs.
by greendawn inthey are cute breeds like king charles, maltese, pug, etc and one can see them often on the city streets taken for walks by their owners.
they feel comfortable even in a small appartment, don't shed an aweful lot of hair, are affectionate, and don't cost much to feed.
on the other hand they are not made for very long walks out in the countryside or mountains they can accidently be seriously injured due to their delicate physique and can be very aggressive with strangers.

Oh what a nice thread! We should have dog stories every week. A real laugh and pick me up!!!
I have two kids, er, dogs.
Little chihuahua mix, brother and sister.
What a joy they are to me.
Even my significant other loves them too.
Its like they understand English!
Come here! Get the cat! Go to bed! Who wants to go?
Who wants some chicken? (The word chicken is a miracle word around these dogs! You can get them to do anything by saying "chicken"..... "cheese" works too. -

Hey ExJDub, your avatar! I love it! I have a little dog who looks just like that! I love him sooooo much!
Is that your dog????
Back to yogurt, yeah, you can make yogurt in any glass container.
I even made a batch in a large glass vase!!! (Didnt have a clean jar to use)
Its incredible and fun. I kind of view my bacteria as a pet or something.
And I view the jar on the stove as a nursery of sorts.
Everything must be kept very clean, i.e. the wooden or plastic spoons used to stir it occasionaly.
I made a batch when I got home from work last night from the remnants of yesterdays yogurt.
At 1am. it was thick and creamy and I covered the jar with saran and placed it in the fridge.
Now I am smelling the homemade bread from the bread maker. It is almost done. Delicious whole wheat bran bread.
Lady Lee the other day ran a thread about bread makers. I just got mine about a month ago and am enjoying making homemade bread as well.
Next goal is soap.
I want to make my own soap. I downloaded a recipe off the net and will be trying to make my own scented soothing soap!
Glad you enjoyed the moo goo recipe! -

Do you like yogurt? I like to eat a little of it everyday. It is kind of expensive and a hassle to deal with all the containers in addition to getting to the grocery store which is 15 miles away.
So I wanted to make my own yogurt!
Where I rent has a small gas oven and stove. On the top where the burners are, there is a warm spot.
I call it the "sweet spot" on the stove where I make my "moo goo", or yogurt.
Its so easy! The key is that sweet spot!
I take a glass quart jar or huge drinking glass and fill it 3/4 to the top with cold milk, low fat or regular.
Then I take a scoop of store bought plain yogurt (good kind with lot of bacteria in it) and plop in it and stir it around. I use only a plastic or wooden utensil to stir the mixture.
Then I take about a 1/4 cup of Non Fat Dry Milk and stir it in for the bacteria to eat.
Then I place a small wash cloth on top of the jar and place it on the sweet spot for 10 hours.
At about the 9th hour it is still runny milk, then during the 10th hour an amazing change happens.
The accidophillus grows rapidly and takes over the milk turning it into a thick creamy goo that I've read is so healthy for the human gut!
Then I just place it in the frige and chill.
When you get down to the last bit, use it to start your next batch. You never need to buy store bought yogurt again!
Just buy milk on sale and you have an unlimited inexpensive supply of wholesome yogurt!
One time I cooked something in the oven below while I was making the moo goo on the sweet spot above and the whole oven got too hot and I killed the culture and bacteria.
But other than that one time I have had complete success every batch. I have now made gallons of delicious plain yogurt. I am dieting and on a meatless diet now for a month so this yogurt is a wonderful addition to my whole grains and fruit and veggies.
Other ideas:
You could add a dollop to a fresh fruit bowl, or in a fruit smoothie, or on top of cream soup.
Thought I'd share,

I remember years ago there was this young man who was raised a witness. His whole family was funny! Formerly Irish Catholics is my guess.
Anyway, the whole family slowly but surely one by one faded and I ran into him at a witness funeral.
After the funeral we all went for beers and this guy had us all in absolute stitches!!!
He was the funniest witness I have ever had the pleasure to listen to!!!
One after another he had one liners, and stories galore to make you laugh so hard and spew your beer.
It was a real performance on the order of Dangerfield and Leno!
God, he went on for an hour about his childhood growing up a witness and incidences out in field service and from the platform and his own feelings about being the only witness in school growing up.
He had us all laughing our guts out. It felt so healthy to laugh about our frustrations.
Has anyone else experienced a real funny witness???
It is an amazing way to deal with all the issues! -

Dear Miss Peaches....((((((hug)))))))))!!!
Your story has touched my heart today. Lady Lee is right. You did nothing wrong.
Hope your family continues to make progress and you find happiness after all you've been through.
Life is an interesting journey.
