"Even though this thread is not about it but I would love to mention that I find it hard to believe that members of GB don’t engage in a healthy sex life too and that it must have a prominent place in their lives. How otherwise explain Sydlick’s choice of a wife who could be his granddaughter. (oh yes they would have so much to talk about, right)"
They have a rather...eccentric...relationship and she is much younger than him yes but not THAT much younger and she has always acted far older than her years. ;)
This is a great post though.
I wholeheartedly agree with your points.

A question I've asked an elder as a kid, he never gave an answer
by zagor inthe question was, "so if things are going to be returned to as they were in eden does that mean that we all are going to be naked again and that we won't need any clothing.".
it is very uncomfortable thought for many dubs.
it is not only to do with "immorality" as such (though many naturalists would vouch that it being naked has nothing to do with it anyway).

Hobbies & talents & dislikes.
by hibiscusfire insometimes i wonder if the persons we are sreally show off our talents.. you may go somewhere with all these talents, hobbies and dislikes and people just see you for another two legged creature on planet earth.. for instance at work people just see you for what you do, they don't know how talented you may be.. my hobbies:.
watching television & movies, sewing, being around my doggies, relaxing-bathing- walking on the beach - love the sand.

Hobbies: I am a very addicted to computer gaming (and video games in general :)), currently in love with the World of Warcraft MMORPG. I also love puzzle games, board games, brain teasers. I love reading (big historical fiction dork here among other genres) and chilling out and listening to really amazing music. Lately I have been really into learning different types of dancing like bellydancing and tango which has been fun.
Talents: I am an artist and a musician, been playing piano since I was 4 years old and currently do a lot of work with keyboard programming (producing etc.., more on the electronic end of things which probably reflects my musical tastes as well ;)..). While I went to school for art, I am not currently working in that field at all (neuroscience) but I do spend lots of time with my sketchbook when I am inspired although that really goes in cycles.
Dislikes: This summertime weather =( . It is so humid and yucky here. I wish it could be October all year!, people who do not question or think for themselves, inefficiency, ignorance, greed, umm I am sure there is more but that was what was currently on the tip of my tongue or fingers so to speak. -

Are You Happy With Your Life???
by minimus inbasically, are you happily single, married, divorced, separated?
do you wish that your life could be happier?
do you believe that life sucks and then you die, anyway?

Yes.
It took me a long time before I got to the place I am at now and I feel life is wonderful in that you as a person are constantly evolving. There is so much out there that makes life like a huge juicy peach you just want to take a huge bite out of (or mango...I am hungry right now, can you tell?)...so much knowledge, spice and beauty.
I feel very sorry for people who let *any* organized source (cult, religion, whatever you want to call it) dictate how they live their life and what they can or can't do. I feel sorry as well because the people who let themselves be controlled in this fashion often do so out of fear. Fear is the oil in the squeaky door of such organizations.
I feel very happy to have a nice sense of self, to be an individual, to live without fear of displeasing (an imaginary god, old men who live in Brooklyn, people who judge...whatever), to pursue whatever I want to pursue whenever without silly guilt from any source, to have friends who love me for ME, to have a boyfriend who rocks my world and keeps our apartment clean and loves my cats :P (what more can a girl want? lol), and to have a job where I am constantly learning and where my co-workers are pretty cool. -

The GB as JW celebrities
by Rubyvixen ini am really, really curious as to how other people back while in the org viewed the gb.
because my oldest brother (older than me by 14 years!
) was first at the watchtower farms and then brooklyn bethel and my uncle is a member of the gb, my mother tended to flaunt these facts and look for every opportunity to go to either place with her bible studies (these terms are so weird to use after all these years lol).

Yet another "My Story"
by mapleaf18 inmy story: and i apologize in advance for the long post.. i was born to special pio parents and i attended my first meeting when i was 6 days old, which was unusual in the 50s and 60s because babies were usually quarantined for the first month or so.
my mother had a poor childhood and was often placed with uncaring relatives which served as foster homes.
my father was raised in a single parent home by his divorced mother who was looking for answers.

Thank you for sharing this part of your story.
I gasped at certain parts of it because that was a lot like how my childhood was with my father as the PO...

Allow myself to introduce....myself
by pele38 ini must say, i never thought that i would see the day when i would find a site about disillusioned (mostly) jehovah's witnesses, but low and behold...one truly exists.
first let me start off by saying thank you to the creators of this site, and i'll have you know that i've been lurking for several days now and i am just finding the time to finally log on.
i've been a member of the borg for over 20 years now, been baptised for about 14 of those years and now i find myself in the most unusual of places.

Superstitious JW Nonsense
by 95stormfront inone of my jw relatives was relating to me another one of their superstitious nonsense stories designed to demonize every damn thing that doesn't fall into an approved wt list.
she was telling me about a her friend, who upon cleaning a relatives house, found a voodoo doll with a prayer to demons written on paper that it took an hour to burn.
she also related to me how in the hour it took to burn the demon paper prayer, everyone around them getting sick and falling into convulsions.. i guess she was a little perturbed that i was .

Wow. This is all taking me way back.
My parents never let me watch the smurfs or have Cabbage Patch dolls and much of that was due to urban legend. Instead we had some sister in our hall make us 'fake' cabbage patch dolls which sucked....they were so not cool :(
I remember all the tales of demons and my mother claiming that a lot of her Bible Study people's house were 'demonized' and she could feel it.
Ya know, for people who are SO against such things (what ever happened to all that bunk about not even speaking of such things for fear the demons would suddenly perk up and rail against you?) they sure have a LOT of experiences with it. They are regular Buffy the Demon Catchers ;)
Some of the stories I heard as a kid though were genuinely terrifying at the time. Whenever I slept over my cousin's house we used to tell each other 'demon' stories we had heard from various brothers and sisters like other normal kids would do with ghost stories. -
