Anyone here have experience in Native American culture/worship?
by Angry_Kangaroo insince leaving behind jw beliefs, i have been interested in learning other belief systems.
i am really interested in native american beliefs as i have native blood in my background, and i feel more at peace and closer to god when i am in nature.
from what i have read, it is not a set religion with rules and such, but more a cultural/community based faith.

Every Native American tribe has very different beliefs. For instance, some consider one animal a good omen but another tribe will consider that same animal bad luck. You cannot lump more than one tribe into "Native american beliefs". I would investigate your own particular tribe if I were you.

More help needed... if you can! (for FHN)
by bebu inhey all,.
no pressure, no guilt, but for those of you who can, and those who feel like they would like to make a difference for someone special on this board (aka "family" to many of you), could you please consider helping a 'sister' in real need?
flyinghighnow needs some short-term help financially.

For those who've settled on 'no contact' with their JW families . . .
by Madame Quixote infor whatever reason.
do you question it sometimes and think you should try to "reach out" to them again?
i was this morning and then came across the thread above and was reminded why i need to stay away.. but, still, i read threads of people who have managed somehow, despite being d'f'ed or faded or d'aed and think i might try to be more understanding, supportive, reach out or something.. despite all the problems growing up in a fairly dysfunctional family, i still feel a deep attachment to them and hope against hope that they might come to their senses (if they ever had any to begin with) and get help and leave the cult of jehobo; and we might reconcile, etc., etc., blah blah blah dream dream dream.. i deeply wish for them all freedom and happiness and healing and feel so helpless to free them of their bonds and yet see so much possibility for it, if only they could be reached somehow.

Some of us have just decided not to participate in any more of these hot/cold scenes. These people are choosing to act like this. These same circular conversations get sickening. Some of us choose not to be abused.
Life is short and good. Hang around positive people and be happy.

by theinfamousone inbefore we even begin, if you have not read my story, you may not understand why this is such a big deal to me... this is a part of my story and it can be found at: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/101870/1.ashx.
and here we go... my "father", an abusive bastard of a jw, recently sent me an email that put me in a tizzy!
it was late friday night, i had just gotten home from a shift at a local bar where i bartend on occasion!

Writing him an email about your feelings might make you feel better. How is it that these jw parents have selective memory? How is it that they attempt to diminish the pain they caused? Hugs to you.

This is the start of good news indeed. The damage is already done, but watchtower gets hit in the pocketbook.
I think mad should be allowed to continue to make a jerk out of himself.

serious child custody question
by reneef inhas anyone divorced a jw and had a good outcome with co-parenting?
has anyone been able to stop the spouse from taking the kids to meetings?
do you think a person can ensure their kids get a quality life if they are out of the home and the ex has primary custody?

Why do the majority of "newbies" disappear ???
by kid-A ini have noticed that, in general, there is a "core" of regular posters on jwd that have been members for several years.. however, it seems the vast majority of "newbies" disappear after a couple posts, days or perhaps a week.
how many "welcome" or "introduction" .
threads have we had here where the new member disappears within a day or so, never to post again?

I read here frequently but I don't have anything to say. I am just educating myself. Also, I got on some psycho jw site where psychos were printing the real names of ex-jws because they were losing an argument. I am carefully fading. I don't want anything stirred up in my family.

Do you charge your 18+ kids rent?
by tall penguin ini've been wondering what people think about this.
as soon as i turned 18 and had an income (it was disability but income just the same) my parents began to charge me room and board.
is this common practice?

I don't see how it can be right for upper middle class people to charge young people rent when most of the time they make peanuts for a salary. It sounds like something Watchtower advocates in order for people to get more free money. This way they can have more time to preach the good news. If you can get money from your kids it is another source of income so you don't have to work and you can go preach.

Did You Usually Feel Guilty While A JW?
by minimus inmy 79 year old mom that has every ailment known to man was going to the bookstudy this afternoon because she felt "guilty" for not going the last couple of meetings due to illness.
i told her it was 95 degrees outside and asked her not to go since she has difficulty breathing.
she decided to do it anyway.

I felt guilty for never doing enough and that my heart was never into it. I also felt guilty about the double life.
