hello jwd it has been a few months now since i initially posted an announcement regarding my intention to create a feature length documentary about the emotional and psychological effects of the wts disfellowshipping practice.

i am happy to announce that filming began the weekend before last at the 2007 a common bond conference in chicago.

i was welcomed to acbs conference with open arms.

UPDATE ON DANSK

it's been a long time since i posted here but i often read your messages when ian (dansk) logs on.

as most of you will know, ian will be going back into hospital on monday for an allogeneic stem cell transplant and will be away from the forum for a good few weeks (hopefully he'll be back home within 4-6 weeks).

last time he was in hospital many of you sent messages to his ward and i know they cheered him up immensely.

How Do You Get on the Cover of a BOrg Magazine?

does anyone know where the models come from who appear on awakea and watchtowera magazines?

it would make sense to me that theyre dubsa as this would be saving the societya money.

or are they worldlya people?

It's who you know.

My son was in a magazine once. Before the shoot, our family had to be 'approved' by the elders in the congregation as excellent examples, etc. We were only chosen because the coordinator of the shoot knew our family.

I know others who have been in books, etc, but they are mostly bethelites.

Armish vs. JW

i watched an episode of greys anatomy last night, which featured a 23 year old girl, who had come from an armish family, and was dying of cancer.

she and a friend had left home at 16 and now that she was dying she wanted to go home to her family.

she could still talk to her family because she had not been baptised and therefore not shunned and her friend was shunned because she left after she was baptised.. now, as a non american, i don't know a whole lot about the armish, except what i have seen on movies and tv, but the similarity between the jws and the armish or puritans struck me last night.

I believe they only shun for a specified period of time then resume association.

A few years back, there was a guy in our congregation who had left the Amish and become a JW . He was married to a JW and had 2 small children.

He came from a very strict group, (there are varying degrees of strictness, from what he said), and his parents were absolutely shunning him and his family. They had refused to even see his children, but he did mention that he hoped that they would mellow in time. It didn't sound like things would ever return to normal for him, though.

Made me think of the JWs who shun at first, and years later bend the rules somewhat. But as I said, the groups (can't remember what he called them) vary in their strictness in following the rules, from what he said.
