  I have a Border Collie.... she's amazing!! Border Collies are extremely intelligent, willing to please, easy to train, but need a lot of attention and like to have a 'job' to do. Ours enjoys herding our 3 cats, with varying success.... Cats don't generally allow themselves to be herded.... .

  PM me and I'll send you pictures and more info!! I'd love to post pics of my pets here, but they have to be anonymous like me for a while.....

  we've already got some "most hated" threads on here, like "most hated bible verse" or "most hated meeting", don't know if there's another thread on metaphors/analogies.

  one of the most used analogies used is the "jehovah's like a loving father holding your hand and leading you, you can trust him like a little child trusts his father".

  i don't know how often i heard that one.

  Why do so many exjws give their power away? Don't you see that by excepting their judgement you are feeding the monster?

  It's like fear. If you succumb, fear rules your life and you stunt your potential.

  OK, I have a serious question. What do YOU think we should do? I don't accept their judgement of me as a person, but shunning is a fact for ex-JWs. Losing all your friends is reality. I am fading because I want the best of both worlds. I want to keep my friends to the extent possible, and not be shunned, but I do not want to be a JW. I'm fighting the system... very passively, I know, but it's the best I can do right now.

  You are a beautiful worthwhile individual who has the ability to move mountains. Don't allow the naysayers to deceive you. Life is fantastic! Enjoy it like a good meal and you'll die satisfied.

  I'm still in because if I DA, I will lose all my family and friends. That's the only reason. I have been in my entire life, and have not one single good friend who is not a dub. I have soooooo many friends who are dubs, though, and they are such good people. Unfortunately, they are also thoroughly indoctrinated, so they would not speak to me if I was DF'd or DA'd, even thought I know it would be very painful for them.

  I am fading to give myself time to build a network outside the JWs. I don't think I could handle being completely alone, no friends at all.

  Stupid cult.

  just curious....because i left before being baptized, my parents handled all the donations and i never gave them a penny.

  how many posters on this board actually gave large or not so large sums of money to the jws, either directly, or as 'gifts' to pioneers, cos, etc??

  What always annoyed me was their badly disguised demands for money. You go to meetings and hear entire meeting parts devoted to how important it is to attend meetings. Then you are told that of course, you would want to support the Kingdom Hall financially because we appreciate the meetings and the spiritual food we recieve. Oh, and the assembly is next month..... So then you spend a fortune on transportation and hotel and food for the family to attend the Spiritual Feast and sit still for 3 days straight. And each set of announcements contains the prod that we are so thankful to Jehovah for providing us this Spiritual Feast, are we not? And wouldn't it be fitting to show our appreciation by helping to defray the costs at this convention with our Voluntary Donations.

  Good grief.

  Children or no Children?

  the jws used to always have discussions about whether to have children "in this system of things".. i used to always think it was pathetic to avoid having kids because of the so-called impending armageddon.. however.

  despite the fact that i've always wanted kids, right now i'm not so sure.

  just look at the things happening in the world.

  I was never the kind of person who especially liked kids, although for some reason I always knew I would have my own.

  I have 2 teenagers. When they were young, I thought they were a lot of work. Now, they don't need me to make them lunch and change their clothes, but they need me to be there for them emotionally - and it's a huge challenge. Worrying about how to raise them to be good people takes up much of my brainpower....

  Through the years, we have dealt with health issues, which have been very trying, and quite a bit of other stuff. But, at the end of the day, I wouldn't trade being a mother for anything in the world. I love my kids more than I ever dreamed that I could love another human being.

  Either way, it's a huge decision. I wish you all the best in making it!!!

  If New Light (TM) is so important...

  why doesn't the wts point out the new light (tm) when it is published and do a compare and contrast study so jws are fully aware of the change and the ramifications of the change?.

  to this day there are many jws who are unaware of the generation change in 1995.

  What's Your View of Spanking (Children)?

  I admit that I have spanked my kids, but only on a couple of occasions. They were quite young at the time, and the 'spanking' consisted of a swat on a diapered behind. The aim was never to inflict pain, really, just to bring home the fact that I was very serious and they needed to obey. (One occasion was the time my daughter ran into the busy street, after being told to stay next to me as I put the baby in his car seat.) Any time they were 'swatted', they howled as if they were in agony and had a broken heart.... They got the point. After one or two episodes of that, all it would usually take was a stern voice or look from me, and they would obey.

  I never hit them when they got older, because it wasn't necessary, and because I felt that it was demeaning and thus defeated the purpose as discipline.

  They are teenagers now, and they're great kids, if I do say so myself....

  When Did You Realize That You REALLY Were Going To Die?

  I always believed in the Paradise earth promise. When I stopped going to meetings about a year ago, I just KNEW I would die at Armageddon, although I had been pretty sure that I would die for about a decade.... ever since I started doubting the JW teachings. By researching things on the Net, I became convinced that the JW teachings were totally wrong, and the WTBTS was not God's channel of communication.... The relief I felt at knowing that there was no Armageddon right around the corner was absolutely amazing!!!

  So now, in my 40s, I have to start planning for retirement, for old age, and other things that I never ever thought about before. But I think it's wonderful anyway. I get to live! I get to see my kids grow up and see my grandchildren one day! A huge weight has been lifted from my mind.
