Ok all!! Thanks so much for the advice... Here's the update!!
My friend came over and engaged in small talk for all of 5 mins. before The Question came up....'So, what can I do to help you get back to meetings?'.... She said it with a smile, so I just laughed and changed the subject... We talked for a few more mins, and then she asked the same thing again... So I told her that I was working through some things, but that it was a very personal journey and that I would appreciate her prayers. Then I changed the subject again. Believe it or not, she brought it up a third time.... !!!! I told her that I appreciated her concern, but that there was really nothing that she could do. I was trying not to look worried, but by that point I was starting to get somewhat annoyed, actually. She left it alone after that.
I would have loved to have used the depression story, but her husband and mine are both elders and talk a lot, so that one wouldn't fly. I'm sure she will go home and report to her husband, who will report to my husband.... Good grief.
Thanks so much for all the good advice!!!! Just knowing you all were here was a huge help! You guys are great.

'What can I do to help you get back to meetings?'I had someone ask me that once upon a time and I said: "Nothing. I've seen too many things going on at the Kingdom Hall that violate my conscience, and it's not a safe place to take my children." I got a beautiful "goldfish" look: goggling eyes and open mouth.
Nina - That's hysterical! Some day I'm going to use that for sure.... !!

You guys are great! CYP - Yes, she is absolutely the type to do the car-salesman pitch.. I love your suggestion.
I tend to be very evasive in situations like this, but she's the type that will come after you.. Well meaning, I'm sure, but hard to wiggle out of answering. I'll have to use those more direct-and-to-the-point suggestions if she doesn't let up!

I just got a phone call from a really good friend of mine. Her husband is an elder, and a good friend of my husband's. Well, Sunday my husband had the public talk in our KH, and they took him to lunch afterwords. My daughter had gone to a meeting earlier in the day, and my son was sick and home with me. So, my very direct friend and her elder husband (who is very kind and caring) were alone at lunch with my husband. I have been wondering ever since Sunday what they talked about ....NOT!! I know that I was the topic of conversation, at some length, I'm sure.
So now my friend just called and asked if she could stop by for coffee before she goes to work. She hasn't seen me in so long..... As I said, she is VERY direct, she is a die-hard dub, and she has asked me before what she can do to help me get back to meetings..... HELP!!! What do I say if she asks something????? I just want to fade, mostly because of my kids at this point, so I don't want to arouse any suspicion on my friend's part. How can I answer something like, 'What can I do to help you get back to meetings?'
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

i just recently started having b-days in the past couple of years for my kids.
they were a flop!i didn't know when to bring the cake out.. when to sing "happy b-day" or anything.
i felt like an idiot!only 3 kids showed up and no one elsed called to even say they weren't coming.
I feel the same way!! I haven't celebrated a holiday since I was 6 years old. I sent a birthday card to my dad recently... But I'm planning to buy some Christmas gifts this year. I'll get gifts for my df'd relatives, but who else? Do I send anything to my family whom I rarely see? How about neighbors? I have no 'holiday ettiquite'... no clue.
Anyone??

es needs a thread...i've noticed she's been in the dumps and seems to think no one really notices.
well, time for that crap to stop.. you need to know you make a difference, just by putting in your two cents on any given subject here you make me crack a little grin, and i know i''m not the only one.
to say no one really notices is to berate the contribution you make as well as so many others.
Oooohhh!! Es!! You are the proud owner of my 100th post!!!

i was talking to an inactive jw and she said she was loaded with guilt and dread, thinking she might be destroyed at armageddon.
i have no such feelings.
how about you?
I used to feel guilty ALL the time, no matter how much I did. I pioneered, and felt guilty for not having enough bible studies or return visits. I went to all the meetings, and felt guilty for not preparing enough beforehand. I went to assemblies, and felt guilty for not going to the 'Cleaning Day' before the assembly. I felt guilty for not praying enough, for not studying enough, for not reading the bible enough....... GOOD GRIEF!!!
I don't feel guilty (much) anymore. I do my best to be a good person, and I trust that God loves me for who I am. It's a great feeling!
