  Man does this bring back memories. I used to work on this building crew, the Western Missouri crew. I live just up I-44 from Joplin in Springfield. I'm sure many of my old friends worked on that project. Recently, a new KH was built here in southern Springfield. The real estate they built on was prime, located next to one of the hottest business districts in town. What's funny is that the new Hall wasn't any bigger than the old Hall, I still wonder why they built it. My theory is that the GB encourages new KH builds as a means of convincing the R&F that rapid expansion is ongoing.

  Is saddeling a congregation with unecessary debt really Christlike? The entire situation reminds me of a Pharasee praying on the street corner.

  No matter how much you do, it's never enough to please "Jehovah's Organization."

  I love the comments about college. There's no "spiritual atmosphere" at my place of employment either, does that mean I can't go there? College is a waste? I think not. What else would you expect from a pack of window washers in suits?

  i know, i sound like a 5 year old here.

  and perhaps emotionally i am to some degree, having bought into the jw "new system" at the age of 5. .

  I know exactly how you feel. At first the idea that the paradise earth and retribution through Armageddon might be false is almost unbearable.

  Here was my routine for coping:

  Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey, beer, wine, whiskey, green tea, flavored green tea, health club membership, outdoor activities, college enrollement, this board.

  Life is harsh but beauty, love, and wisdom are out there. Start by looking for the beauty inside yourself, then figure out how to share that in this lifetime.

  Man I miss that whiskey sometimes.

  JW's and Charity

  today i was chatting with one of the jehovah witness men from work.

  he is like a big guy in the hall who can marry other jehovah's.

  anyhow i am wondering if i should ask him if the people at the hall give to the homeless or have an outreach program for the poor.

  The only thing it will make him "think" about is how your interest might result in a Bible Study for him. Before the day is over he'll be dreaming about all the stats he can count off of you, and how those stats might further improve his stature in the local or regional JW power structure. The day after you ask him, he'll be trying to give you a pretty little book with nice pictures of smiling people. Later, he'll make all kinds of promises about a magical life on a paradise earth................

  im hurt, desperate, confused and considering this religion - advice?

  like the subject title says, i'm hurt, desperate and confused and don't know what to do anymore.

  i'm so desperate to have something to live for that i'm considering converting to something like the jehovah's witnesses.

  i know this might seem a bit extreme but please hear me out.

  If you walked into a Kingdom Hall and related the story you just shared, you would be greeted with love and acceptance. It would feel great! Soon you would have a life filled with hope, and a purpose to fill every spare moment you have.

  But someday you might realize the truth about the JW's, as most of us have. The truth about them, is that they live in a fantasy and a dangerous one at that. The JW's "truth" is the wool they pull over your eyes to blind you from the fact that as a member your are nothing more than a free literature peddler serving a dominate, cult.

  Yes you may lose your current depression, but be forewarned you will gain new depression someday!

  Wow, that is truly admirable of them, and how humble for a brother to put the video up on the internet. Has anyone been able to find a similar video from another religous group?

  And custom built crates as well? I am so impressed! Looks like all that free labor on quick builds is paying off!

  Just some quick math on the 525 pallets measuring 4' x 4' x 6' (so proudly presented in the video).

  4' x 4' x 6' = 96 cubic feet.

  96 cubic feet multiplied by 525 pallets = 50,400 cubic feet. That's a lot of goods, right? Let's put that in some perspective.......

  Assuming an average transport trailor pulled by a big rig measures 50' x 8' x 8' (That is a pure guess on my part, and I'm guessing low. Maybe someone else has an average measurement?) One tractor trailor rig could haul approx. 3200 cubic feet of goods (or in this case custom built JW crates).

  50,400 divided by 3200 = 15.75. So the JW's sent 16 tractor trailor loads of help to a distastor that affected the lives of millions? Then had the nerve to brag about it? I wonder how much of that cornacopia of aid reached non-JW's?

  I bet the churches in my local town sent more aid in the first two weeks of the disastor, let alone the rest across the nation.

  I would think that a worlwide organization with membership in the millions, and in control of millions of dollars, could do better than that!

  guys, im deliriously happy that im nearly out.. my mind is now free of morbid, gloomy thoughts of the future.

  its a freedom that is indeed priceless.. i now feel less need to drink (although im having a beer to celebrate just now)!!

  i have been for some time atheist, i doubt it will ever change.

  i had no idea there were so many ex jw's.

  i have been out since 1998. officially booted in feb. 2001. i am not sure on what grounds though because i never went to my meeting.

  all i heard is that accusations had been made.
