  Integ I guess the word movement has sort of slipped into my vocabulary after reading alot of information about JW's. I think that would strike me as odd as well. It would be like a brother in the congregation saying he has a sermon to give next Sunday instead of the word Talk. :-)

  Violias I in no way was trying to be disrespectful. I think you misunderstand me. I to was a staunch believer up until about 5 years ago. I truly believed that the Watchtower spoke for God himself.

  I knew some who where in just for social and other reasons and it was these ones who I just could not understand. ..... why did they not have the same zeal and enthusiasm for the truth I had? Did they not see the urgency of our times?

  I have made many sacrifices for this movement. But as time went on the facts no longer could be hidden. The elephant in the room was getting bigger and bigger. I would venture to say that the elephant was in the room when your ancestors were in the truth, but you could find something to cover it.

  Now that elephant has outgrown the room.

  No we were not stupid. We just wanted to serve God

  I think (and this is from my observation) that this organization has cried wolf to many times for many of its members to ignore, even the hardliners. I caution all to not assume that just because one may appear to be fully in that they really are not deep inside having serious doubts. Many I talk to and observe are not buying all this happy 100 year talk. They realize its just a screen to mask a bigger problem.

  Just think about it like this ...if all are buying into all of this hype why has meeting attendance dwindled, why are so many depressed, and why the drastic need to rebrand the organization.

  Most of you have commented how the jw's of today are not the same as before. I believe and see that this is due to a lake of faith in what they are being told.

  Magnum what you say has some merit but let me say that their are more who have serious doubts then you realize. Just because they may talk a certain way and act a certain way doesn't mean anything. If we were to meet I'm almost positive you would not suspect me of being a doubter. Remember Ray Franz had serious doubts about 1914 but he keeper in line.

  Some are keeping in line. Not rocking the boat. Because for many... there's no need to rock the boat. They have their jobs, family, homes and other toys. Some even have respected positions in the organization that makes them like little gods. "Who cares if it's not the truth , it's still a respectable way of life".

  Fayedunaway your observation may be correct. Here in this area there is a prestigious university that many have sent there children to and many do live comfortably. It does seem that those with less buy into it a little more zealously because they have nothing else.

  Thanks for the welcome all....

  I find it hard to believe that even hardliners are gulping down all this stuff hook line and sinker. For God's sake it's 2014..I venture to say that this organization never believed we will be still in this "old system" this long.

  Those who don't have doubts most also believe in Bigfoot and other mythical creatures. The evidence against the organization is everywhere. Even my dear old mother on her smartphone came across information by accident. She told me that she was on the society's website and "their were comments from brothers speaking against the organization." I just laughed and said "Ma that wasn't the right website that was an "apostate" website"......she then said "well some of the things they were saying was true".

  I've been looking on this site for some time but never posted. So Hello to all. I'll give a little about myself, but not too much. I'm a ex-bethelite ( brooklyn )and currently serving as an elder (10 years) (thinking about stepping down) on the service committee. That's all for now. But as time goes on I will reveal more and about my story of why I ended up here.

  But I did want to at least give my thoughts of the current thinking of many in the congregations. Many on this forum believe that many of the wittnesses are blindly following after what the watchtower tells them. But I don't see it quite that way. From what I see and hear many feel that the G.B. have no clue of when the end is coming and they do not think these men are Gods. Many I talk to including those considered "strong in the truth", have made up there minds that they will not see the end in there lifetime. So they live there lives accordingly.

  Of course you have the occasional zealot, but many are NOT fully investing in every word coming from the watchtower. Many of the "friends" know about the failed prophesy and other scandals that are featured on this site, but they don't really care. To them being apart of this movement is just an insurance policy. ... "I'll pay a little bit and if something happens I'm covered, but if nothing happens I didn't spend that much anyway". It seems to me the ones who get hurt from this movement the most are those who put all their savings into this insurance policy. Because when nothing happens they are left with nothing.
