Hi there More2C.Thanks for the book recommendation - I'll check it out soon as I get off this board. I couldn't agree more about informing and educating yourself. I have anti-psychotic meds to take on an as-needed basis and both I and my husband are getting pretty good at spotting when it's time to pop one. Messed up on Friday though - tried to set fire to a cardboard box in the front room then when upstairs and cut my arm up, first time in months. I think next time hubby might just realise that trying to set fire to things probably isn't a very healthy sign!

Thanks for your positive reply, Waiting. You sound like you're attracted to bipolars! Well, we can be kinda fun when we're up! :-)

Hi there
I've read Unquiet Mind and found it very encouraging. My JW mother has read it, too, so it's nice that she's showing an interest. Have also got Kay Jamieson's Touched By Fire about manic depression and the artistic temperament. Seems I'm in pretty good company - just gotta wait for signs of genius to manifest now! :-) -

Thanks for replying Dins. I think one of the most depression-inducing things about a JW upbringing is that they put this huge emphasis on what a terrible place the world is...so when you leave, you still carry this very negative world view, but without the promised magic fairy wand to make it all better. Personally speaking, I also find it hard to shake off the sense of being watched, judged and found not good enough; there were impossible ideals to live up to and having to appear happy all the time is enough to make anyone scream! Are you getting help/counselling? i've found it enormously helpful myself. Thanks again for your reply.

Thanks for that - fascinating stuff! Confirms my suspcicions. Knew quite a few Jdubs who were really hung up on demons - I guess that's what you'd call paranoid schizophrenic, or psychotic at least. Being raised JW is almost like being trained to be mentally unbalanced IMHO.

Hey Logical, who isn't messed up? I'm not convinced by the facade put up by so-called 'normal' members of society in the least. I might be crazy (well, ok, technically I am :-)) but I happen to believe that having emotional responses to things, thinking and feeling deeply, and being an individual are natural. I think it was r d laing said insanity is a sane reaction to an insane society. And he didn't even mean the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society!

Hi there and thanks for the welcome. Parents...aargh! She's a special pioneer, but she's got arthritis and lupus, so after a morning of annoying people by knocking on their doors and lying to them, she's completely exhausted and can hardly move. He's kept busy with being PO and heading up the blood committee, not sure what it's called. They are both perfectly pleasant to hubby and me, but I can feel their heartbreak and longing and it makes me feel regretful on the one hand and livid on the other! Poor sods. They are at least of the 'nice Witness' variety - helpful and supportive towards others, not quick to judge, etc. They want us to go visit them soon but no way am I up to it mentally at the moment. Thanx for asking :-)

Hey Abaddon! Good to hear from you. How is love and life? Sparkling and luscious I hope. Do you ever go to what was Tishie's board any more these days? I must say this one is rather well organised, not that I'm knocking the other one, it's been extremely helpful to me. Wow, this is like a school reunion!

Hey hey Marky! He who howls at the full moon! And a Senior Member no less! Let me know when you've firmed up dates for visiting London and I'll be sure to keep my diary free so we can talk crap, drink beer and put the worlds to rights. Am mad as a hatter at the moment but I think gradually emerging from the mists. Mind you, I've had three pints of lager and it's still only 5.30. That means rolling into church half cut again this evening. Oh well, they're getting used to it!
