i recently signed up on a couple of internet dating sites.
i've been talking with one guy for about a week now and he's asked to meet for coffee.
i'm a little nervous and wanted to hear how many others have tried this.
lol Yeah - not that it's something I'm exactly happy to have done...not sure why, but it's a bit disconcerting.
So one guy had his pager out w/in a few minutes - turns out he had a good amount of money on the football game that night. Apparently he actually has a bookie. Umm...
The problem is that until you actually meet you don't know if the chemistry will be there. If you've ended up talking too much to someone and then you find out the chemistry isn't there it can be difficult.
it really struck me last night that my dad is pretty much gone.
he has advanced alzheimers, and is slowly dying of kidney failure from 40 years of diabetes.
the family stepped in and said no to dialysis, because it would be 5 hours per day 3 days per week - minimum, for limited return on quality of life.

Hey sweetie. I remember us talking maybe a year ago? (I got divorced and changed my name so that's why you prob don't recognize the name.) I went to Irvington Cong and my grandparents to Mocks Crest, so I've met your dad quite a few times. He was an intelligent man, and he was always kind to me. Even though I must have known him when I was very young and don't remember talking to him too much, I've always always just held this impression of a kind and caring grandpa'ish man who I really liked. The world will be a little quieter and sadder without him.
My grandpa died of Alzheimers (or something very like it) and I remember how much it hurt my mom. What do they call it, the long goodbye? And every bit of it hurts and is terrible.
Hang in there dear woman, you have the love of everyone here.

That is one of the worst things I've heard in ages.
i am a reasonable cook when i can be bothered (as paulj will hopefully confirm) but often resort to quick and easy methods, packet mixes, tins etc.. whereas my parner is a brilliant cook!!
leave him in the kitchen for a little while and he produces something from scratch that is delicious.
so today i decided to extend my culinary skills!
I made blueberry-oat muffins for a potluck. Well, they'd just come out of the oven before I left and I put a towel over the top of the container so they'd stay warm. My friend went over to get one; when he came back and the muffin looked as if he'd fought a mountain lion for it I realized that the heat and moisture (sealed in nicely by the towel) had cemented them to each other rather permanently.
well, it's hard to believe, but i'm finally ready to go on my world travels that i've been planning for so long.
seriously, i've been trying to get out of here since way back in my witness days, at least four or five years.
finally, i've gotten everything lined up, all the loose ends tied - i am on my way.. i leave this thursday for my first leg: 3 months in japan!

One thing I was thinking about tonight during Rushdie's talk was about a class from last quarter. We were reading a book by Gellner (Nations and Nationalism? Something like that.) Gellner said that intellectuals have often been the ones to inspire change. Watching Rushdie speak I was thinking that he is someone capable of leading people and inspiring them.

But by far the best part was when an audience member asked him his opinion of religion. He said "I'm not in favor of it." I started clapping and so did about half the audience, the other half was dead silent except for some guy up front who got mad.
a friend recently commented to me, that a sister in her congregation had two encounters in field service that caused her embarrassment.
first, the sister called on a man.
she was offering the awake magazine on disasters.
I agree, it's not right to limit your assistance based on membership status. That being said, at least they were there. I will never forget the things I saw there, nor that many ppl didn't care at all. If you walked in those doors and did more than shake your head and walk back out, you've done more than many.

I've been out for several years, so I'm not an apologist for the dubs by any means. However, when I was at the Astrodome, I did see brothers in there looking for other Witnesses. I have to admit, it was the first time in a long time I've had any good feelings towards the Witnesses. I saw people in such dire need and (granted, it would have been great if the dubs had been willing to help others) I know for sure that any Witnesses in there would have been taken care of. Witnesses may be a f***'d up cult, but they do take care of their own in a time of crisis.
