I don't expect Social(ist) Security to be there when I retire, so I save about 15% of my gross income in an IRA and 401(k), as well as a newly-opened Health Savings Account. I've been saving since I started my current job about 7 years ago, and I already have about $50k stashed away. I plan to have several million saved by the time I retire.

What Are You Doing To Prepare For Retirement?
by Apostanator ini'm curious as to what some of you are doing to prepare for retirement.
some people have 401k's, others buy real estate, some have many children in hopes that they will take care of them when they get old.
so i'm wondering what some of you are doing now to prepare.

JW's do believe in Hell
by jstalin ini was thinking today about the jw vision of "paradise on earth," and i realized that their vision is actually hell.
who would want to spend 1000 years living with lions, picking berries, hanging out with other jws, and not being able to have sex?
that's not paradise, that's hell!

Interesting conversation with JW friend
by jstalin ini was having lunch with my jw friend this past week and he started talking about not being able to think as clearly as he could in the past.
i just wanted to scream out "it's that f-cking wt literature that's numbing your brain," but i kept cool.
i told him he needs to exercise his brain, that it's like a muscle - use it or lose it.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I suppose I understand that I could be talking to a brick wall, but I have a feeling I'm the only person he can talk about personal issues with.

I was having lunch with my JW friend this past week and he started talking about not being able to think as clearly as he could in the past. I just wanted to scream out "it's that f-cking WT literature that's numbing your brain," but I kept cool. I told him he needs to exercise his brain, that it's like a muscle - use it or lose it. He also drinks a fair amount. He says he has three or four beers a night (that seems like a lot to me). I suggested that he quit the beer, read more, and get some exercise. I even suggested that he take an accounting class, or something that requires some logic, to exercise his brain a little. We finished the lunch with him telling me "those are some good suggestions." We'll see what happens....

I thought Batman Begins was one of the best movies of 2005.
