for those of you familiar with wikipedia, you can get the answer to almost any question.
it's the greatest online encyclopedia and reference.. for curiosity sake, i looked up "jehovah's witnesses" and came up with this link.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/jehovas_witnesses.
not only does it do a pretty good job of outlining what jws are about, it also mentions they are suffering from a decline in numbers in developed lands.
That's the great part about Wikipedia. Article writers must take a neutral point of view, but links to opposing points of view are acceptable and encouraged.
there was a statement in a 1997 awake that i see people quoting on the internet that is trying to imply 4.9% of jws are divorced compared to half of worldly people.
i have found some statistics that prove that this is quite a deception.
awake 1997 september 8 p.11 a people taught to love.
Aren't JW's DF'd if they get divorced? Doesn't that make them non-JWs? It would skew the numbers to say that only 4.9% of JWs are divorced if those who have gotten divorced were DFd.
after 131 years of preaching around the world.
its a losing battle.
there are fewer people today in the us that know witness doctrine or what witnesses would call "the good news of the kingdom".
If WT embraces technology so much, and they're so sure of their doctrine, why sue the quotes web site? Why doesn't WT put every past Watchtower, Awake, and publication online. Why isn't the Reasoning book online? I've never heard of the Vatican suing anyone for posting RCC documents online. In fact, the vatican's web site has all Catholic doctrines online:
http://www.vatican.va/archive/index.htm
Does the WT post all its doctrines online? Or do they prefer the bait and switch, to get people in the organization, and then reveal what they're really about? Where'e the online catechism of the WTBTS?
i'm 18, my whole life i've been fed a lie that my whole family believes is true, they've done nothing but try to help me in what ever ways their religion will allow them, and now wfter being sheltered, confused, but taken care of physically and what my mother thinks is spiritually i'm ready to leave it all ebhind, friends, family and more because now i'm of age and can see the numerous flaws and problems in the orginization.
do i deserve to choose what to do.
i'm between a rock and a hardplace.
i'm ready to leave it all ebhind, friends, family and more
Confused,
You said it yourself. You're ready to leave it behind. You need to be you. You've found someone that is special to you and you need to be able to enjoy that without the fear of "someone finding out." She deserves that too.
It's not going to be easy leaving all that stuff behind, but you will be liberated!
in my recent post about the watchtower and philip morris stocks, it was mentioned that the watchtower has a trust fund that they received from a j.w.
inheritance, or something to that effect.. it is the h.m. reilly trust for watchtower bible and tract society.. i am unclear about this..... can the watchtower sell all or part of this trust anytime they want to?
if so, then there's no excuse for them to have it.
The entire tax return isn't there, so it's hard to say exactly where all the income comes from, but the attachment that was scanned shows clearly that MO (philip morris/altria) stock is owned in the trust. Watchtower likely has no control over the trust. The trust was probably set up by someone about to kick the bucket who decided to transfer a bunch of assets to it, and the beneficiary is Watchtower.
A trust is not "owned" by anyone. A trustee (the bank, according to that tax return) oversees the assets of the trust and ensures that the wishes of the trust grantor or the trust document are carried out. Watchtower has no say over the assets of the trust, but they certainly should be aware of where the income from the trust is coming from (MO). It basically sits there forever and any dividend, royalty, etc income is distributed by the trustee to Watchtower. Again, Watchtower has every right to refuse the income from Evil Big Tobacco.
.
you guys probably know about this little gem, but i only recently discovered it... http://earth.google.com/ it's an awesome little program that shows you actual satellite images of much of the world, i can zoom in pretty close on where i live, and big cities are even clearer, check screen shots out.... .
.
Is that Bethel?

Depends on how the trust is structured. Most likely, the trust has an independent trustee whose job is to ensure the assets are maintained and that any income then goes to WT. WT would have no control over the trust, just be the beneficiary of its income. A beneficiary of a trust generally has no control over the trust's assets. However, if they are aware that the income they are receiving comes from and "evil" source, it is within their right to refuse the income.
i added some blondie-like comments this week.
kind of fun.
13 daniels enemies slyly asked darius: is there not an interdict that you have signed that any man that asks a petition from any god or man for thirty days except from you, o king, he should be thrown to the lions pit?
LOL - good post. I read that book at the uging of a JW friend. My eyes glazed over at all the "must have been" and "evidently" statements. Unbelievable.
my cousin and aunt (she who is in no way active) have ganged up on me saying how reputable and correct the bible is.
my aunt in specific has stated some good points about the bible, asking how is it that i dont believe in the bible if there are a lot of things in it ahead of its times.
scientifically speaking, she said, the bible clearly states the earth is round and that rivers give way to the seas.
