Thanks for the comments, everyone. I suppose I understand that I could be talking to a brick wall, but I have a feeling I'm the only person he can talk about personal issues with.

Interesting conversation with JW friend
by jstalin ini was having lunch with my jw friend this past week and he started talking about not being able to think as clearly as he could in the past.
i just wanted to scream out "it's that f-cking wt literature that's numbing your brain," but i kept cool.
i told him he needs to exercise his brain, that it's like a muscle - use it or lose it.

I was having lunch with my JW friend this past week and he started talking about not being able to think as clearly as he could in the past. I just wanted to scream out "it's that f-cking WT literature that's numbing your brain," but I kept cool. I told him he needs to exercise his brain, that it's like a muscle - use it or lose it. He also drinks a fair amount. He says he has three or four beers a night (that seems like a lot to me). I suggested that he quit the beer, read more, and get some exercise. I even suggested that he take an accounting class, or something that requires some logic, to exercise his brain a little. We finished the lunch with him telling me "those are some good suggestions." We'll see what happens....

The Establishment Clause and Hypocrisy
by underbeliever inthe establishment clause is the part of the bill of rights that grants freedom of religion in the united states.
it is why religions like the jehovah's witnesses can exist.
the witnesses have defended and elaborated on the establishment clause themselves, on many occasions, in the supreme court.

A couple of points on your message here and your essay.
1. The constitution does not grant rights, it recognizes them. The founder believed in natural rights, which predate government. The Bill of Rights doesn't set out to grant rights, simply recognize pre-existing rights and guarantee them (see the 9th amendment and the rarely-mentioned preamble to the Bill of Rights)
2. A state religion doesn't necessarily imply a mandated religion. For instance, in the UK, the Church of England is the official state religion and the queen (or king) is the head of the church, but it is not mandatory for all UK subjects to practice the state religion.

You've rented a billboard in front of a KH. What would you put on it?
by whyizit inif you could rent a bill board where you knew jehovah's witnesses would see it, what would you put on it to try to effectively reach them?
and don't forget that lots of other people would see it to.
maybe the regular joe would be able to develope some good questions from your ad too.
