Contact from my JW brother-in-law
by sass_my_frass inafter my wedding i sent out an email to every non-witness i know and jw parents and a couple of siblings; the first group to stay in touch with old mates or turn near-strangers into friends in a time of needing them; the jw family group so that they'd know what's going on in our lives and how the wedding etc went and partly because i didn't want to be 'shunning' them; i wanted to be the one showing love and making an effort to maintain contact.
i sent another out recently, i figure i'll make it a biannual report on the life and times of the frass family.
it's nothing at all controversial, just a 'what we're up to' email.

So, should I reply? Should I include the words 'actually I will never be reinstated into you insane cult'? I'm thinking that my reply will be the last communication I ever have with any of them, pending say a parent's funeral, so I know that I should be cheerful and upbeat. I want their last memory of me to at least have a chance at making them think.
Respond with something like:
"I'm sorry for emailing you, it's just that we want to share the joys of our life together with our friends. We are having a wonderful married life and just can't contain ourselves!"
A little reverse psychology - show them that the JW view that apostates are all miserable is flat wrong.

You take someone new to the memorial, and they make fun of it.
by free2beme ini remember one year i was in my late teens and living away from home and needed a ride to the memorial.
i was invited to go with a couple from the hall and on the way they picked up a bible study they invited, this bible study ended up being a person i worked with who i knew was studying.
we did the memorial thing, and dropped off the study and went home.

My JW friend invited me to the memorial last year, so I decided to go. He knows full well that I'm an atheist, but I've told in him the past that other people's beliefs interest me. So I went. I thought it was a joke. I was love-bombed on the way in and the whole event was just creepy. Everyone was dour and it wasn't much of a celebration at all. And the elder who spoke was jumping around to 10 different bible passages, all of which were completely disconnected, in trying to make his point about the 144,000. Can't they just stick to one passage or story?
I was raised Catholic and Easter and Christmas are pretty exciting times to go to mass, but the memorial was boring and creepy.

JWs and relationship immaturity?
by jstalin inmy jw friend seems to be unusually immature when it comes to relationships and women.
i don't think he's ever had a serious relationship with a woman (he's 23).
he uses the terms "womens" when he speaks about women, and he uses the word "boobies.

A def future candidate for a jc I think
Yeah - I think I'm his only worldly friend. I'm probably his only outlet for his real thoughts.

it occured to me he might be testing the waters with you- does he know you are gay? if not he may be trying to confirm a suspicion.
No, he doesn't know. I don't get the impression that he's testing the waters.

The Passion of the Christ Movie
by arwen ini am watching this movie for the first time and it has subtitles and is in another language.
i am wondering if this is the way it is or if i have rented the wrong version.
i can hardly watch it as it is very disturbing and i feel so bad for jesus.

The main idea I took away from the movie is that Jesus was another example of what happens when someone challenges the status quo. The powers that be were threatened and they had him removed.

Do you have a degree? If not, have you considered going to school part time and getting one?

The rudeness of people
by greendawn inwhat were some rude things people said or did to you?
i remember once this guy who farted loudly several times in quick succession and then apologised to those present in the room by saying: oh had some coke that's where the gases came from, don't worry they are not the smelly meaty ones.

OH and i just remembered, a few years after first going to the hall me and a friend started a punch-up lol.
Forgive my non-British-English-speaking self, but what's a punch-up?

SUICIDE 'permanent solution to temporary problem'
by DannyHaszard insome positive affirmations:
"there is a (good) life after the watchtower cult"
"well living is the best revenge"

I don't believe it is a condition just suffered by ex-JWs or people questioning the JW faith.
I don't think anyone's saying that. But it does appear as though ex-JWs have a higher suicide rate than the general public.
It's sad that both the watchtower society and society in general create such an environment for gays that this sort of thing happens. What a waste.
