I was "new agey" before I became a JW and I am kinda "new agey" now that I've left. These days I live in the NOW. If I die and there is no consciousness after death I won't be disappointed anymore than I "missed" being alive before I was born.

I don't totally discount the notion of a 'god' but my perception of what 'god' is has changed (e.g. I've been reading all sorts of "out there" stuff like Zecharia Sitchin's "Earth Chronicles" ancient astronaut stuff, books on Quantum physics/psychology/consciousness, etc. etc.)

There are times too when I get into my "matrix" frame of mind and realize this could all be one really sh*tty dream my consciousness is having.

i believe that a number of witnesses are leadind double lives.

they go to meetings.

they might even be elders and ministerial servants.

They arrive at the meetings just after the opening song & prayer
There is at least one weekly meeting they miss (usually the book study)
They're out the door as soon as the meeting is over (or sometimes before)
You never see them in the literature room
They go out in FS 1 hour a week (after the Sunday meeting) and allocate the rest of their FS time to "return visits" (maybe visiting a hot female neighbor a few times a week...I have a friend who really used to do that!)
They read straight from their notes when they give their lackluster talks and exit the stage promptly
Their breath sometimes reeks of Jack Daniels & stale cigarette smoke

Living proof: Elders are not spirit appointed

witnesses say that elders are appointed by holy spirit.

the bible is the product of hs and when the body prays and uses the bibles qualifications for older men in the context of the perspective candidate hs is involved in his approval or disapproval.

then when the co passes the recommendation on the gb (or who ever actually makes the decision) these spirit appointed men are influenced by hs.. all well and good, the only problem is, it does not work.

Hey IP...this is the VERY thing that brought me out of the org! It wasn't til I started dating a naughty Ministerial Servant that I started to question the "spirit appointed" claim. After that I started questioning everything the GB said and it wasn't long before I was outtie!

today, many who have dreadlocks as a casual hairstyle know very little about the origins of dreadlocks.

You guys are right, but that means that all the pictures that we see of Jesus with "long hair" are wrong. The Nazarites by law were to have long hair and not drink wine. Why do they depict Jesus as having long hair?

Maybe long hair wasn't the sole possession of Nazar-ites/enes. Rastas wear dreadlocks today for spiritual reasons but it's not uncommon to find dreadlocked people with no connection at all to Rastafarianism (sp?)

Who knows how Jesus really wore his hair. Does it matter?

Also, with all the parallells between Jesus' story and that of Krisna, Horus, and other pre-christian deities who knows if he was even a historical personage at all!

They were instructed not to cut their hair...were they instructed not to comb it also? And what's the difference between a Nazarite and a Nazarene? Were all residents of Nazareth Nazarites (or Nazarenes?)

And most importantly, does it matter?

I'm still pondering the news and in the great JW tradition I'd like to offer an illustration:

If you set your freezer thermostat to 33-degrees farenheit eventually any ice in it will melt. Only a small, 1-degree change, but enough to turn hard ice to water. The ice will not melt instantly ...it is a slow thawing process. Maybe this perceptively "small" news will turn out to be pivitol after all.

The child has already been made a ward of the court, but certainly the information in the essay will be of interest to the Dr's and Courts in this case no? This can be an area of activism....keeping an eye on all JW blood cases around the world and making sure the parties involved know of this new research on the JW blood information.

What's the worst response a person ever said to you in the field service?

i remember knocking on a door in the field service, and the girl who answered the door, looked at me and said in french, "allez vous faire crosser" .

although i didn't laugh, i found it very funny.

the brother with me also had a smile on his face, but didn't say a word, as we walked back to the car.

Let's see...a few experiences stand out: - the man who told us we were "Satan's Witnesses" when we tried to offer him a tract - the man who listened to our presentation then proceeded to take of his belt and whip it at us! - the woman who opened her door to reveal a full Santeria altar and glared at us and told us she was a high priestess and was proud of and happy with her religion - the [very sexy & muscular] man who came to the door in a towel (actually, that might've been the best!)
