my 90+ yr old grandfather was a jw elder, he's in a nursing home now & we're sorting through his old stuff.. has a lot of jw books, including wt archive compilation books all the way back to 1952. this stuff will probably all be thrown out.
we're all moving house so continuing to store it all would be a pain in the ass.. i remember hearing that the wtbts changed a lot of stuff when they transcribed all the books to dvd (and continue to deny it).
i've never actually bothered looking into it, but it'd be nice to be able to have some hard evidence i can later throw into people's faces >:] .. so, are there any good ones i should save?
It's not treasure to me and - just a bit of a reality check here - but it doesn't seem to be treasure to anyone else either as no-one has offered to save these books.
Came downstairs today to find they've been packed into a trailer ready to be taken to the garbage tip.
No takers, so off they go.

Well soon after i'd posted, my aunt bagged it all up for storage (i hope). I think we're putting it into storage for now coz we don't have time to sort much. I asked her if the local church would be interested in it all and she said (to paraphrase): "Not really, the teachings have changed so much in the last 10 years that most of this stuff isn't even accurate anymore". Which is kinda the point of why it's worth keeping dear aunt, lol.
Sigh, it really is kinda hilarious how members of The-Truth(tm) have no respect or understanding of how the systematic processes of knowledge aquisition (ie: actual "truth" and howto properly seek for it) - like science, history, sociology; they have no understanding of how these processes actually work or what they look like.
Anyway, i'm no anthropologist. I'm not going to personally hold onto this entire library, i think any amount of time spent pouring over this particular brand of vomit (or the ppl who believe it) is a waste of precious time better spent elsewhere. But i figured if any of y'all had any requests for your own collections, or recommendations on what i should keep so i could wittle down the collection to just a book or 2. And no, i don't personally have the room for the library, can't hold onto it myself.
But yeah - i'd at least give it to others who are more motivated by this stuff, and it's good to keep for future research just as long as i'm not doing it.
The library isn't technically mine, it's family's. My entire family (incl extended) is JWs (incl prev menioned Aunt, she's married to an Elder), and i live ATM with my JW family. But i figured if they were just gonna toss all those books (which had been a suggestion) then they'd be obligated to let me have my pick of it instead, however i do wonder if they'd rather toss it out than let the family's heretic pass the books on to his local oh-so-evil apostate communities, heh (i may have to be sneaky about it). So yeah, this thread is me doing my token part , due dilligence and all that.

Hmm, maybe i should ask the local congregation if they want to play museum custodian to it all. I'll have to include some notes in the books that i donated it, so i can still get access later if i need to. i dunno, just a random idea.
hey maybe i could donate the whole collection to the local library. Or are libraries dying out thesedays?
I live in Brisbane Australia incase anyone wants to take them all off my hands, asap, like - in the next few days, preferably today or tomorrow lol. I really detest throwing out books, it's particularly horrific when it's something of historic and/or controversial value. But it's not my call.

I know people have asked this, but do you think a lot of people are starting to think about the "potential war" that is headed our way as something that was "predicted?" And know they think they are opening their eyes to something they think they haven't seen.
well, as JWs we get overly sensitised to such things. I do still often see indications of the comming doomsday (eg: the "united nations" turning against "false religion" or whatever it was) and honestly sometimes it gives me pause.
But even if it all ends up comming true. I'd be proud to take my stand AGAINST Jehovah in the great tribulation.
