JW's and home schooling?
by semelcred ini don't wish to offend any that are teaching their kids at home, but today i was again confronted by a situation where a jw family were home schooling.
the kids had little structure to their routine and without putting the mum down, she was no teacher in an academic sense.. the subject is close to my heart because my parents who are witnesses, took my younger brothers out of school and home tutored them.
the were subjected to below standard education and limited in social skills, particularly as my parents are crap at these skills themselves.. i have grown to hate home schooling except in the situation of medical or logistical situations.. what are your comments good or bad and do you think the option to home school is abused by the witness community?.

My best friends mom refused to let her kids go to school. It wasn't so bad for my best friend. She at least went to normal school until she was in 7th or 8th grade. Her younger brother and sister never got to go to school. They ended up teaching themselves to read and write. They both are uneducated to this day. My best friend got a job at 16 and put herself through a correspondence high school. The younger brother and sister got workbooks from the store for lessons. The mom worked so she never taught her kids like they were supposed to be taught. They were never socialized outside of the kingdom hall. The mom didn't want them exposed to the world.
My mom pulled me out of school to home school me but I ended up getting a job. I got my GED last month so I can go to college. I never got home schooled after I was pulled out.

Any good taxi cab confessions you'd like to share with us?
Think About It
Ahh not anymore. I hated that job with a passion at the end. I want to forget all about it now.

I used to be a cab driver for 5 and a half years. I relocated last month and I'm currently waiting for my new job to start. I hope it starts soon because I hate sitting around on my ass doing nothing while other people pay for my needs. I'm living with my adopted sister and her family right now.

I was never given one. Even after I was baptized. I always wondered why. I was never on reproof or in any kind of trouble. I also never got assigned talks. As far as I know I was in the school right up until I DA ed. I never knew why.

Yes Lady Lee. I actually will receive a GED diploma in the mail in a few weeks. No one can ever take this away. No one can say it doesn't count.
My grandfather got his at 70 years old. He did it after he retired for no other reason than the self satisfaction of doing it. I thought if he can do it at 70, then I can do it at 35. I will use mine to go to college as soon as I can. BTW my grandfather never made it past the 6th grade in school but went on to take enginering classes later in life. That was before a GED was required to get into college in like the 1950's.

I'm sorry Paul. I didn't know about the move until this past Saturday. I have a job down there waiting for me. Plus my adopted sister. Don't worry we can still keep in touch. Text or call anytime!I mean that. If you ever need to talk you have my number!!
Thanks everyone. I'm so proud of myself. I can't even begin to tell you how this makes me feel. I have developed a sense of pride I never knew I could have in the last hour. I feel so accomplished. I'm so happy!! I'm so glad I took the chance on failing to get my GED.
