#2 Talks
by dothemath inbrothers assigned #2 talks have no work to do at all as far as i can see.
if you're even a moderately good reader, you could look over it for about 2 minutes ahead of time.. when someone doesn't show up for the reading, and another brother fills in "short notice", there really isn't any noticeable change in the talk, or how it's read.
in other words, just about anyone could do it.. and then the counselor has to come up with terms about how well the brother read it.........etc., etc., etc.. the commendation is pretty much identical every week for this part.. the sisters have to do extensive research on their parts, but the younger brothers who don't do the #4 assignments have got it very easy..........for most, it's about a 5 min.

would hate to be in the ministry school now if the attendence has gone down a whole lot; it seems that every time I would turn around I would have a talk to give, usually a #2 talk but now I bet it seems that the brothers in the smaller congs would have one every other week, lol.
Littlerockguy, the last cong I attended was very small and the last three times I attended the MS I did the #2 talk. That's not the reason I never went to another meeting though.

by frankiespeakin inin the late 80s or early 90s while i was still an elder the gb sent out a letter to all bodies of elders concerning taking up a collection fro these hard working brothers who have given up so much to be cos and dos.. how do you think cos and dos felt about the letter to all body of elders the expessedly told elders not to take up a collection for these brothers?.
i bet that letter caused a lot of cos and dos to second thought about the gb.
it may have made them feel angry.

Not being an elder I was never approached, but I'm sure the CO's and DO's just told themselves this is a directive directly from Jehovah, so it's for my own good. NOT

I was the account servant in the Olympia, WA cong for nine years. Until about 1988. It seems like they presented a resolution to the cong to pay the CO's expense from cong funds. Although, if I remember right, they did stop doing the resolution and just had me write a check toward the end. But of course being an MS I never saw or heard ot the letter you speak about.

CO's talk: "Those who leave the truth say they've never been happier"
by truthseeker inyep, it's true.
while giving his usual spiel about how true christians should struggle, he says that some of those who have left the truth, say they never felt better.. .
the answer: "they don't have to stuggle anymore.".

That CO must be reading this forum.

I will not share a meal with you but can you give me some money
by tyler m ini had to come here and post about this.
my parents who have dutifully shunned me for nearly 9 years had the nerve to ask me for money.
it wasn't for food, a car payment, house payment or anything like that.

Not the same thing, but this reminds of the time a cousin wanted me to sign a legal paper. It was to his advantage that I sign it and had negatives consequences for me. He was a pleasant and chatty as could be. Hadn't spoken to me since I was disfellowshiped, but now we were buddies. What a bunch of hipocrites.

Witness parents choose to tranfuse baby to save life
by Ticker injust wanted to share some exciting info on a recent experience of a witness couple.
their young baby very unfortunatly was struck with leukiemia and requiered a blood transfusion to save its life.
fortunatly the parents had enough sence and logical reasoning to save their babys life by listening to the medical staff and proceeded with the transfusions.

That reminds me of the time my daughter needed surgery to remove a tumor from her neck. We of course told the doctor, no blood, he said he couldn't promise that. We looked for another surgeon and thought we'd found one. He had performed surgury on witnesses before and had always promised no blood. My x told the first doctor that we'd found a doctor who would promise no blood. So he, the original doctor, called the second doctor and had my x listen on another phone. Doctor no. 2 told doctor no. 1: "Yes, that's what I tell the parents, but if it came right down to it I'd give them blood." This scared us, so doctor no. 1 talked us into signing a paper that said he'd make every effort to avoid blood, but if it came down to it he'd give her blood."
Well, the surgery went fine and as far as I know no blood was given. After she was all well I felt guilty for signing that paper. I confessed to an elder and he said, "Don't worry about, we don't always handle things like we should." You'd think they would have at least deleted me as a MS.

Examples of JW evasiveness/dishonesty
by BONEZZ inbeing born and bred into the borg i always felt it was the "truth" but i wasn't the one who measured up i was not good enough to be a dub.
but i also had nagging questions that went unanswered by the most learned elders...or at least not answered to my satisfaction.
their "answers" were in fact not really answers but side-steps or attempts to mis-direct my question into an area they could answer.. an example...it always bothered me that we could not examine the contents of what opposers put out.

sunspot, starting over, I no longer believe there is a god, and when I reflect on such reasoning it only reinforces my disbelief. Some years before I departed from the dubs, when they still had "special events," some big cheese from bethel gave a talk on how much jesus suffered immediately before and during his supposed impalement or crucifiction (sp?). He went over every detail, on and on and on. I think it was a period of 24 hours. I couldn't help but think of the German witnesses who had endured months if not years of suffering, but because they weren't perfect their suffering didn't count. BS Of course, there are numerous other examples of people suffering for the borg, such as those who refuse blood, Malawi, etc.

But then the question arises, how are Christians supposed to have a relationship with Jesus without talking to him?
But then the questions arises, if you can have a relationship with someone who never talks to you, why can't you have a relationship with someone you don't talk to?
