That's really funny. Here in Mexico when you bribe a cop for a traffic infraction that's how you do it, with a handshake. They get very nervous it you try to just hand the money to them.

The Golden Hand Shake
by Grouper ini am interested to know how many of you during co visit gave him the money hand shake.
i for one gave money through a hand shake to the co on his last day of his visit.
i remember my parents and other family members although being poor, giving the co a nice amount of money with the golden hand shake or the sneeky sports coat pocket drop.

Rom 9:21 — Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
I was thinking about this scripture the other day. (I don't own a bible, nor do I have a dub cdrom, so I couldn't look it up, but fortunately Peacefulepete's thread had a reference to it.) I never did understand what it was talking about, nor how it fits with dub doctrine. It sounds like predestination to me.

potter and the clay
by peacefulpete ingiven the successful completion of the mapping out the chimpanzee genome(new scientist breaking news - the chimpanzee genome is unveiled), i imagine in a few years some efforts will be made to use that information to attempt to create a human/chimp hybrid.
let's fast forward a decade or two and we have succeeded in producing the first chimp hybrid with human mental abilities.
how do we treat such a being?

They showed modern chimps using rocks to crack open nuts. The kid chimps watched the older chimps to learn how to do it. You could see them sort of playing around with it, banging one rock on another one, missing the nut, glancing it. The narrator said it can take 6 years for a chimp to learn to do this.
I wondered then just how far removed we are from chimps.
Juding from my students I'd say we're not far removed from chimps. They just can't seem to get the hang of the coma. I teach English as a foreign language to advanced students at a snob university in Mexico. The semester started on the 15th of August. I know students hate learning about punctuation, so I spent five to ten minutes a day going over the basic uses of the coma. That's about seven or eight times (the class is three times a week). I may not be the best teacher in the world, but I thought maybe over a period of time they could absorb five or six basic rules. On Monday of this week I gave them a quiz. It was obviously they didn't have a clue. I guess it'd take six years.

What's the big deal about a Circuit Overseer visit?
by jaffacake inaccording to the son of my newly baptised jw friends, they re-decorating their house for a visit and 'inspection' by the circuit overseer.
can anyone explain what the circuit overseer's visit is all about?
does he or she normally visit the homes of people in the congregation?
-

Yes, it's quite a privilege to have the co and his wife for a meal. The inspection part must be something new.

Is the decision to give blood to your child strictly a conscience matter?
by M.J. inmy wife asserts that this is the case.
she adds that no witness is to judge another for their decision, whatever it may be.
is this the case, and if so, does it really play out that way?.

Way back in the early 70's the cong servant's daughter needed a blood transfusion. Her parents refused and the hospital got a court order. She had the transfusion and no action was taken against the cong. servant. He served as a elder until he died.

Do you love your pet?
YES. His name is Chamaco which means brat or street urchin in Spanish. He's smart as they come and very affectionate. I can't imagine life without him. Pictured at left.

Does anytone 'wince' when they hear people talking about God/Jesus etc?
by PaulJ ini went to a born-again christian church wedding a couple of weeks ago.
in so many ways it was like a kingdum hall.... and the person conducting the wedding was jesus this jesus that..... i just want to roll my eyes.. i think its because i been preached 'at' so much in my life as a dub i dont want to hear it anymore.
maybe im getting my head round the idea that beliefs and worship are best kept to yourself..... anyone else feel like this?
-
ChrisVance
Yes, indeed. About a year and a half after leaving the dubs I went to a catholic mass. It was very different than a dub meeting, but jesus was mentioned. I've never gone to a church service since. I agree people should keep such things to themselves.
