  Horror of horrors.....

  i know that while being a witness, we were not really allowed to watch horror movies, or anything that smacked of demonism.

  anything supernatural.

  my question is, what movie or movies, since leaving the society, has really scared or upset you?

  Hmmmm...

  Haven't seen many scarey movies in a while. Let's see...

  "Stigmata" didn't bother me. "Hannibal" was just gross, not scarey. "What Lies Beneath" had me looking between my fingers at the movie screen, but it didn't leave me with the jitters.

  I guess I'll have to go back a few years and say "Amityville Horror". Though it's not very scarey to me now, it scared the CRAP out of me then. I constantly found myself looking out windows at night to see if there were any disembodied eyes floating outside, looking in.

  I want a Common Marmoset (pet)...

  anybody know anything about "common marmosets" as pets?

  they are a very small monkey - but don't really look like a monkey.

  they are squirrel size and the type i want has large white tufts in thier ears.

  I had a hedgehog. Very cute. Totally nocturnal. Don't expect to play with it during the day. They eat hedgehog chow and mealy worms (live).

  I had three ferrets and hope to have a couple again sometime. They are NOT mean if they are trained and loved. They do stink somewhat. They are social animals and must have friends. They are litter box trainable with patience, but will back up to any available corner if your back is turned. They go when they gotta go, and any corner will do. A good way to train a ferret not to bite is "bitter apple". It's a nasty spray that you can put on your fingers that will quickly teach a ferret that biting a human in yucky. They don't bite to be mean, it's part of their play. Ferrets are very curious and quick. I've known many a friends ferrets to die by climbing into the dishwasher before the door closes or to fall asleep in the family laundry and end up getting washed. They sleep very deeply. I wouldn't recommend them for families with small children. They are too easy to hurt.

  Here are a few of the books that have impacted my life. They are not listed in any particular order.

  1) The God We Never Knew - Marcus Borg

  2) Does God Exist - Richard Swineburn

  3) Philosophy for Dummies - Morris

  4) Mind of God - Paul Davies

  5) Care of the Soul - Thomas Moore

  6) Philosophy of Religion - Various Authors

  7) Atheism - Brian Davies? (Actually not sure of the author)

  Next books on my list to read: Reading the Bible Again for the First Time; The Meaning of Jesus; Farewell to God; and God at 2000.

  saved at a Promise Keepers convention

  my husband and i have a friend who credits the lord with every good thing that happens in his life.

  he is really a nice guy, unmarried, no kids and is now in remission from non hodgkins lymphoma (again, credit to the lord).

  what do you think about people who credit the lord for every good thing that happens to them?

  First you said:

  So does a "true Christian" receive a resurrected body at the time of judgement (and if they are saved, what are they being judged for)?

  Or does a "true Christian" get eternal life in heaven?

  Ridiculous trips to the 'back room'

  the posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.

  here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.

  though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.

  2: For planning an all girl get together, which was TOO planned. If it had been more impromptu, it would have been fine. lol

  ok bobsgirl got a bunch of advice, now i'd like to hear from the women.

  our anniversary (27 years)is this weekend.

  i've rented a place that has beach access and a hottub (on whidbey island for those in the seattle area).

  Dubs Worked My Street Today

  this morning, i went outside for a smoke, and lo and behold, down the street i saw 2 dubs just starting their door-to-door work.

  it was an older dub brother i used to know from my old congregation, and an unidentifiable sister.

  i knew that they would not be good candidates for the current un/ngo discussion, as he is a dub who really doesn't get it.

  I AM A DISSAPOINTMENT TO MUM

  my dad was telling me today that i am a big dissapointment to my mum.. it seems the feels that all her years of rearing us are a waste of time,.

  because her three kids dont go to the meetings.. she drew parralels to another family, in our hall, and said we all the same.. the other family has four kids, three of whom are/were drug dealers.. one was driven out of the country by terrorists because of it.. the other is a prick living in a giant house.

  he only talks to you if hes bought.

  What a horrible thing to be told!

  I've been lucky so far in that my mom hasn't said anything like that to me. She's a Witness, but my dad's not, so I only have to worry about her.

  We've gotten into a couple of religious discussions which have been pretty tame. She's the one who wants to end the discussion first with the attitude of "let's agree to disagree".

  She believes the Witnesses have the "truth", but I also think she's sees the hypocrisy and so doesn't judge me too much, (at least to my face).

  I know words don't help the hurt much - but please know that you are not alone and that you have friends.
