Beast of no nation
by WasOnceBlind ini always had a problem with the belief that god is allowing all the suffering in this world to go on just to vindicate his name and prove the devil wrong.
i watched this movie on netflix and i can really see why the atheist movement is growing.
it really does a good job of portraying the suffering in some parts of the world.

How can it anyone explain why god will listen to a prayer of say someone in a first world country vs someone in a third world country? I now find my self in a place where I still hold on to the believing in God or a creator (because evolution seems to far fetched) but that he is not what we portray him to be. I do not think he cares for us on a personal level like we would like to believe. -

see how cold and unloving is the language they use.
a translation attempt is as follows:.

Is that Vow of obedience real? I don't know how it gets more culty (probably not a word) then that! I picture the victims of Waco or members of scientology reciting something like that. -

Speaking of cats, towards the final days of me doing field service, me and my service partner stole a cat ( I like to think we rescued it). It was a small gray malnourished kitten, that was outside. We knocked and since no once answered we took the cat and went home. -

Once I was assigned to service with this pioneer. It was one of the worst days ever, I think he wanted to impress me by how much service hours he put in or something. Any ways after about 4 hours of actual field service he tells me has a study to conduct. So we head over, after about an hour into the study, I thought it was over, but to my surprise this "brother" actually asked the guy if he wanted to keep going. The guy said yeah, so the "brother" actually told him to ask his wife to make us some sandwiches. I was kind of in shock, the guy was a little taken back but he obliged and told his wife to make us sandwiches. Definitely weird. -

Thinking about taking my fiance to a meeting.. going as a "worldly person"
by OneStepOut93 ini may take my fiance to a meeting.
give them fake names and just see how my fiance reacts.
he's been curious about seeing what i hated so much about the whole thing (not that he'll really understand everything, i mean of course he never will to my extent but)... i'd like to see what an outsiders view on the whole thing would be as well.

OverlappingGeneralizations
2 hours agoOn a side note, there was one "brother" who showed up out of nowhere. He said he moved up from the south somewhere. He wanted to go out in service, was commenting like a fiend, the whole works. Very charismatic, and a big hit with everybody. He made it about two weeks and disappeared. I ran the literature counter back in those days, and an elder was standing there, and I asked him "hey, brother Charismatic hasn't picked up his magazines. Come to think of it, I haven't seen him in a while". The elder responded with a furrowed brow "That guy was disfellowshipped! Can you believe he came in here and did what he did? Commenting! I even took him in my service group!". So it happens, lol.
Ha, this happened in my congregation too. It was a "brother" who arrived from I think Mexico, it was a while before it was found out he had been DF'ed in Mexico.

Agreed. I have a few more issues, too:
How well do they know Cali State law?
How good is their English?
Will they be culturally sensitive to minorities (including gay people)?
Are they willing to integrate into American society?
Which country did they come from? Is it a country hostile to the US?
Where are their documentation papers? You questions, although valid, speak to the common misconception that all undocumented immigrants are poor cherry picking, non english speaking ignorant people. The truth is that you would be surprised by the number of college educated undocumented immigrants that there are. A lot of them are more American then people who were lucky enough to have been born here and know and care more about America then a lot of their citizens. In fact, many would welcome the chance to be able to fight for America and join the armed forces.

World court of human rights
by WasOnceBlind inwhile australia is dealing with this pedaphile protection policy that the wt seems to have, how awesome would it be if the world court of human rights was to look into it as well, seeing how the wt is a global organization.

I live in the US, and I'm sure that if we started writing letters to congress to have a hearing on this maybe eventually it would happen......one can only dream!
