FB experience

so on last saturday, one of my good child hood friends (i consider her like a real sister) who is da posted on facebook that she was going to be having a birthday party for her son.

well another person we grew up with immediately posted a comment about how she should know better then to celebrate bdays and referenced 2 peter 2:20-22 (about being like a dog turning to its own vomit).

i countered with with luke 11:37-49 and didn't hear back.

I can see your perspective here. I looked up the scriptures. I can see why you are calling the FB poster a Pharasee, but I would have gone with a different approach. You may have got a response and some dialogue if you had tried to reason with them. Personally I feel name calling is unproductive and it feeds into their persecution complex. If just JWs were doing the name calling they may look at themselves a little closer.

I actually didn't call him anything. He referenced a scripture and I just said "I prefer Luke 11:37-49." If anything I was applying that to the WT, the organization who imitates the pharisees by "going beyond what is written" and forcing all these additional rules on the people they control.

Filing this alongside 'the ransom sacrifice wasn't for you' as one of those which totally slipped by me whilst inside.

That's one of the major problems, that 90% of JW's don't actually know what they are suppose to believe or what the actual doctrines are! For them it is a basic JW Org = good, everyone else = bad.

LoveUniHateExams - YOU ARE NOT A JW! Just because you call your self one doesn't mean you are. I can say I am a navy seal but it doesn't make it true. Just because you believe in Jehovah and the fact he is god doesn't make you a JW. Many religions now believe Jehovah to be the name of god. The only purpose for you creating this thread is to troll and illicit an emotional reaction from people here. By the way, the fact that you have hallucinated and that has fortified your faith doesn't prove anything except that maybe you should lay off the drugs for a while.

Most JW's I know are nice people, that's not the issue. It's when you get down to the actual beliefs like shunning or letting your kids die, or having to obey without question, that's when it's a problem. Most casual visitors will never see the behind the scenes stuff, can't have bad PR.

What were Satan and his demons "doing" up in heaven, before being "cast down" in 1914?

i was just thinking about how the wts has been spouting off for years that satan and his demons were cast down to the vicinity of the earth in 1914, but really, when you think about it, what was the difference before 1914 or after 1914?.

its not like satan and his demons did not have access to the earth.

satan and his demons always were messing with earth.

That was one short war!!! I mean think about it, 1,000 years is but a day to god...if we apply that logic and bible chronology, then the devil managed to piss God off and start/loose a war all within 6 days. The war itself lasted but a few minutes!

first of all my parents don't know that i no longer consider my self a jw of believe in the stuff they say (after 10+ years of dissociation it shouldn't be rocket science) and there is no way my dad would ever listen to me if i were to talk to him about tatt and all the contradictions and false prophecies.

however, he is always reading, and he spends a lot of time in the computer using the wt library (the cd one).

i was wondering, if there would be a way to maybe "hack" the program, maybe replace some wt books with copies of something like crisis of conscience.

I don't think he would be fooled. You could send him material anonymously in snail mail, maybe. You could ask questions that will make him think (without stating the ttatt, let him figure it out himself) You could just get into his google and get a lot of stuff popping up at him from various sites that don't support the WT, like this one, JW Facts, silent lambs, etc.

That won't work, the WT firewall would go up immediately. As far a mail, it's hard enough to get him to open non anonymous mail, and as far as google, he barely uses the internet. Not the most technologically savvy person.

Even better, tell him to read the James book on the Library.
It was written by Ed Dunlap and edited by Raymond Franz. In my opinion its the precursor to In Search of Christian Freedom,

However, he is always reading, and he spends a lot of time in the computer using the WT library (the CD one). I was wondering, if there would be a way to maybe "hack" the program, maybe replace some WT books with copies of something like Crisis of Conscience. Have him stumble upon it by him self. Im sure he would read on. Does anyone know if anything like this is possible? Maybe finding out where the program stores the books and replacing some files.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I am around the same age as you and I know for a fact that growing up a JW has negatively affected me. My parents discouraged college so they never planned for me going, even thought I'm naturally athletic I was never allowed to play sports growing up (so athletic scholarships were not an option), I was never allowed to have worldly friends and now that I don't associate all my JW "friends" have abandoned me.
