Exact opposite in ASL congregations. We only use first names. I have a hard time remembering anyone's last name. -

That's the baby boomers retiring in larger numbers to Florida...but the elder population is getting older and dying off. We attended congregations where people were 50 and over and only 3 children under 18.
I call this musical congregations
A family of 6 moves out of one congregation and goes to another
70-6
64+6It's the retirees plus the large cuban and other foreign language population down there. We already know that the only increases in recent years are coming from those segments.
I'm in agreement that it's a shell game. As I said in an earlier post, many of the JWs are spinning this as an equalization - those who have more are sharing with those who have less. It's a shame that small congregations that paid off their kingdom halls will be moved to a kingdom hall that's less convenient and may even be expected to contribute more.

To play devils advocate... I have been told by close friends that they are actually building kingdom halls in south Florida. Some kingdom halls are actually overcrowded in that area and there is a need for more.
I'm sure, though, that those in Small Town USA will not be all that pleased to be merged with another congregation, drive farther for the meetings, and have the kingdom hall that they paid off be sold in order to "equalize".

HA HA!!!! FOOL YOU ONCE, FOOL YOU FOREVER!!!
Ain't that the truth. That should be the WBTS motto.
The consolidations are being spun as an equalization. I've heard many dubs say how some areas may need to be consolidated to save money so that more money is available to build in areas where there is greater need.

MaybeSo,
That last missing space was probably just a copy/paste error. If you see his first post, the 'to' and 'gather' are on separate lines. Probably were joined when he tried to correct the formatting for the 2nd post.
I disagree about the term auditorium not being used often. In this case, congregation wouldn't be used as that term refers to the individual congregations that attend a single kingdom hall. They could have just used the term 'kingdom hall' without adding auditorium, but the usage of auditorium narrows down certain sentences. If they said kingdom hall capacity instead of 'auditorium capacity', this could be mistaken to mean that they would be including the capacity of secondary rooms (2nd and 3rd school rooms) when determining whether or not a kingdom hall was being used fully.
I think this letter is legit. Consolidation is already happening in Australia (reported by news) and some parts of the US (reported on this site). They probably felt a need to send a letter to put their spin on it before the rumor mill took over.

If you go back with your friend, make sure they know that you're going for them and that you do not support anything related to JWs. Otherwise, as others have stated, they may take your presence as your endorsement of JW things.
If you can't be that open with your friend because she may shut you out, I'd make sure to point out the logical errors in the WTs and talks during the meeting. This may help your friend start thinking. If someone says that the world conditions are getting worse, google it and show your friend how conditions are actually improving.
If you really believe you can help your friend, it would be worth it. Just don't get sucked in or cause yourself too much mental stress.

Were we meant to live forever?
by konceptual99 inso i believed for years that humans will one day revert to being able to live forever.
i was told the only reason we don't already is because adam and eve sinned.. if this is the case then why is nothing else in the universe capable of the same thing.
everything else has a finite lifespan.

Lemonparty.org: However, no one mentions your teeth. You only get a single set of adult teeth, and after 1000 years of wear and tear, even teeth with good hygiene will be worn way down.
I always said that even if we were perfect, our teeth and knees would wear out. Some JWs would say "but your teeth will be perfect". I would say that being "perfect" doesn't mean they're made out of some indestructible material; they'd still be made of materials that would wear out. You keep rubbing two "perfect" teeth together and eventually they're going to wear down. JWs would say that Jah would keep them from wearing down.Everyone that I always spoke to about teeth said that we would regrow teeth every so often. There are examples of that happening today. While it's not common and is most likely a genetic defect, it has been documented.

Curious JW Insurance salesman...
by cognitivedizzy infound this interestinga week ago...recently i had a brother who does life insurance for a living call me to see if i was interested in a offering, since i was keen on taking up a insurance policy for my 1 year old daughter for her education purpose 20 years down the line i told him that he can come over, fast forward todayhe comes over with his manager (not a jdub) and we have a long chat about the various long term insurance plans... i found it very strange that a guy who believes that the world end is imminent would be so keen on selling me a policy with a tenure of 20 to 25 years .. in my mind , i'm thinking " is he serious ??
"well after i agree to buy a policy for my child and specifically stating that its for her future education to pursue whatever higher education she likes, the manager encourages me saying " that's amazing , cos of education will increase in the future so on etc "... btw i live in a developing country when education is not free...so i'm done with all the paper works and the manager leaves, so its just me and the brother ( who is a ms by the way )i asked him, doe she really think i made a good choice paying for a expensive insurance plan for 20 years with good returns considering the end was so near..he was dumbstruck i aksed the question, he took a moment and hesitated and said this !!!
!he was like "i don't ever think the world will end anytime soon "do i sense another dissenter .... perhaps a fellow man.... i'm excited :)

If you judge JWs by their actions, it is evident that none of them believe The End(TM) is really near.
DOC,
That may be true of most JWs and of the org as a whole, but there are plenty of individual JWs that I have been involved with that do act like the end is near. They put off enjoyment of life, learning an instrument, saving money, going to college, and on and on, because "the end" is near. Most were full-time servants, but some were R&F JWs.
