Uh oh...you mentioned GMO's and took a rational position. Now you're gonna get flamed. lol
Damn it. I would be the first to post after that comment. I'm not trying to flame. I welcome counterpoints.
that's what i suspect.. perhaps some of us retrained our brains to not surrender to a natural urge to believe the simplest, most drama-laden spins on facts.. examples (at least i think this is the truth!):.

Not wanting to hijack your thread, but I'm still on the fence about GMOs. Selective breeding and genetic splicing are two entirely different things. I'm not convinced that they are bad for us, but I'm also not convinced that they aren't. I'm also not convinced that they couldn't have a harmful affect on native varieties down the road.
The other issue is the veracity with which companies protect their patented genes. I don't think it's right for a company to seize what a farmer has grown just because their gene entered his crops through pollination. If he stole seed or purposely cross pollinated, then that's a different story. I understand that they need to protect their intellectual property, but pollination is a natural process that the farmer has no control over. Sadly the small farmers don't have the resources to fight the big companies.
i see years of acute economic crisis ahead for the w.t.
this is evident with letting go of " volunteer" bethalites throughout the world.
but my thread is on the consequences to the individual, and the organisation of letting " volunteer" bethalites go.. so what happens to the captive mind of the former bethalite when they are let go from bethel?
I definitely see some ex-bethelites and ex-SPs turning "apostate" once they experience life. There was already an anonymous letter from an SP that was posted a while back. It couldn't be authenticated, but I could definitely see a long time SP thinking that way.
My hope is that as more leave they will take family & friends with them.

a letter was just read in out kh stating that all printing of wt and awake is ceased for the coming year and we will just place tracts on fs, countries which were cared by our branch will be cared by other countries...along with this they read the new fs form and stuff about reporting links of videos wtf..lol.
i can't tell which country perhaps that will give away a lot, any one with a similar information.
the thread about magazines stopping distribution in india reminded me of a recent conversation.
a local brother said he asked for a copy of the new organisation book for publishers.
the elder told the brother to print it out if he wanted a physical copy.
from the watchtower november 15 study edition.. 19 when we are being represented in public prayer, we need to display reverential "fear of god.
" (1 pet 2:17) there may be a proper time and place for some actions that would be inappropriate at a christian meeting.
(eccl 3:1) for instance, suppose someone sought to have all in a group link arms or hold hands during prayer.
Sabin-
I have no issue with your post about holding hands with non-family members, but they are going a bit far to say that married couples should hold hands discreetly. First, how would you not hold hands discreetly? Maybe you would hold them high up in the air like you just crossed a finish line or won a medal?
They are also taking it a bit far to say that embracing during a prayer is wrong. Why shouldn't I be close to my spouse during a prayer to my Father? He's the creator of marriage right?

IMHO, this is a long time overdue. There was/is very little interest in the mags. Only my elderly mother looked forward to the next issues. The magazines were stacked high in closets and basements all over the world. The importance of the WT's "flagship" magazines was only in the minds of the FDS & Co. Any business minded person could tell it was a tremendous waste of resources in the modern world.
Dagney-
I would agree with you save one thing. This is in India. They are still a developing nation. While I'm sure many have cellphones and even smart phones, there are undoubtedly many in rural areas that have no access to such things. The printed word would surely help those. It really shows the attitude of the WT to ignore such "lowly ones".

Why would they turn away good money coming into their economy?
The majority are Hindu. They see Christianity as invasive and maybe divisive. They're probably ok with it growing organically, but don't want outside influence causing an abnormal growth. They may also be aware of the cult tactics and are looking to protect their citizens. Also, other than building, what would the WT actually contribute to the economy? Members are sending their money back to the org so it would end up as a net loss.
i'm sick and tired of everyone claiming to be "offended".
if you are not politically correct, you will need to apologize for some perceived slight.. when i was an elder, i purposely avoided as much as i could, anybody that got easily offended.
