Must have had a few construction loans and maybe a 2nd mortgage.

Never seen a man with pig eyes before. If he really "owned" the house, then why would the bank have to approve a sale? The only way a bank would intervene in a legitimate sale is if it A) suspected fraud IE a straw sale B) had a lien on the property for more than the sales price (short sale)
The fact that he is over $40K delinquent in property taxes (per prop appraisal web site) might have something to do with that decision as well
Obviously he has never made a mistake in his life and that every bad thing that has ever happened to him has been the fault of other people. Probably a religious man.

Not sure about Haiti, but the Scientologists were the first to roll into Gulf Breeze with an 18 wheeler full of bags of ice after Hurricane Andrew. They even beat the Nat'l Guard and FEMA! The interesting thing is that the laborers were day-laborers contracted by the Scientologists to distribute the bags.
The Dubs were still calling their cell phone emergenct lists while others were doing stuff.

millions are now facing the dilemma of making house payments on a property that is not worth what is being paid.
.
after originally promising to repay the bank, is there a "moral" obligation to continue in a dwelling, even at a loss ... or is it best to exercise the "legal" right of foreclosure and pay the consequences ?.
Many seem to confuse "morals" with "ethics".
It is not "morally" incorrect to stop paying your bank note. It might be "ethically" wrong to break a contract when you have the financial ability to continue paying it, but it would be your "moral" responsibility to your family to provide for them as best as you are able.
eg. Sell or dump the house at current market, and turn around and buy more house for the same payment or a similar house for less. The who;e idea is not to enrich a Corporate entity, but to provide the best you are able for yourself and your family. Morals V Ethics
