hi i'm new to this forum.

i've looked at other websites to and i see all this about the jw's, now i'm not one, i was raised a jw but made my own decision and my parents respected that.

i've read so many horror stories, but my life wasn't like that at all, as a matter of fact, when they first knocked on our door and my mother accepted a study our life changed for ever, it was for the best in many ways.

urstruly, I don't think those here are presuming to try to do God's job (many here don't even believe there is a God or Supreme Being). Yes, it is "therapy" for some to write their thoughts and experiences. Some are trying to help others through troubling times. Everyone has a reason for being here. You do too, or you wouldn't be here!

May I suggest, since you're tired of this conversation, that you start a new thread about your diet question? I don't have experience with dieting to lose weight so can't offer suggestions -- other than cut back the amount you eat and exercise more -- that just seems like it would work. But there seem to be some knowledgeable people here who would be glad to give you help.

Oh, and one more suggestion....... you said several times you're "not changing either". Don't close yourself to change, it is often healthy. Better yet, don't change, but do try to understand and appreciate others' viewpoints and feelings and why they might be different from yours -- it really does help us all get along.

Obituaries for deceased JWs

i have been slowly preparing myself for when my jw mother dies.

she has diabetes, and she's not taking care of it.

she continues to eat and drink heavily sugared foods.

It used to be customary for the funeral arranger or undertaker to submit details to the newspaper (for a "small additional charge" of course) and the newspaper staff would write it. Recently, though, many people are choosing to write their own obits for a family member to submit. Some newspapers will keep them on file and the family just has to notify the paper, or the paper will accept the obit written by the family. Others will accept an "in memorial" article in addition to the standard obit written by the newspaper.

In my area, all the newspapers have different policies. Talk to the newspaper now, so you're sure on how they handle it when the time comes.

My Dad died this evening

i thought i would let you know that my dad, passed away a little while ago, tonight, january 23. they called me at 6pm to tell me.

he had been failing rapidly for the past month, and had completely lost his hearing and was totally blind.

the dementia was extreme too, and he still knew me on thursday, but didn't wake up to know me in the following days.

Thanks Merry. I agree, looks like business and religion are sharing proven methods. One company I researched had a list of success strategies that even included not reading newspapers, watching tv or reading books and magazines other than that company's literature. To keep the focus on developing sales. Interesting.

I got to the part about separating from family and friends, had to turn it off. Too many painful familiar phrases.

Something that's always interested me is that, when I once had an assignment researching direct sales companies, many of their "proven" sales and recruiting techniques were strikingly similar. Just makes me wonder -- is it really a cult, or good sales ability, or what's the difference? I also wonder who came up with these techniques first -- the direct sales companies or the WTBS?

Yes, I agree, urstruly. I don't care for sarcasm. I think sarcasm is a defense mechanism, sometimes it's an automatic response that can be hurtful.

It's a good discussion. Just ignore the sarcasm.
