  Black History Month? Is it separation or just realistic?

  so i got to thinking after seeing 60 minutes this last week.

  morgan freeman said black history month is "ridiculous" and pointed out that it keeps african-americans seperated from other americans.

  i guess my thinking is that the school text books haven't really changed since i was in school.

  I always thought Black History month was a bit overrated.

  And yet I've always destested the textbooks back in high school anyway. They always talk about the influential black american movers and shakers of our society. But what about those like Marcus Garvey? Jean-Claude?

  Growing up in Florida, you're around all kinds of different ethnicities of blacks- haitian, jamacain, trinidarian- the list goes on forever. And I always had to expierience first-hand the racisim that black americans have against blacks who are not from this country. They think there better than us, they make fun of our accents, joke about us coming over here on a boat. What a shame! So i detest Black history month all the same.

  Dear enlighten,

  I'm black myself and what's funny is I was at another forum (for african americans) and this guy had posted a topic just like yours about the King King movie having racial undertones in it. I laughed at the thought thinking it was just another 'angry black man" trying to blame "the system" Ya'll know how ya'll do sometimes.

  Anyway now I think I am gonna have to see the movie myself and see what all the fuss is about.

  And hey! Who spoiled the ending letting us know he died at the end?? NO FAIR!

  The fear of "spontaneous sex"

  when i was young and single and a witness.

  i remember often the fear older people had of putting young people together alone.

  not just for dating, but even leaving them in a car while an older couple went to a return visit.

  So true Free! I rememeber as a little girl the oler sisters who were dating at the time would always invite me out of '"icecream" Turns out they were just using me as their chaperone since some young brother always seemed to tag along. They'd keep me out all night and never mention to my mother the additional comapanion that was with us.

  As a teenager you could forget working with a young brother out in service. But they never did mind pairing me up with an elder or MS- which to me is a lot worse would you agree? A young girl is a lot safer with a teenage boy than she is with some middle aged man who probbably surfs through those "barely legal teen babes" websites anyway.

  Plus don't forget the dating rules! Chaperones are mandatory!! That's always cracks me up. Just adds more reasons to my list why I will NEVER ever marry a DUB.

  i first noticed that no scriptural discussion of the choice is made, so it all appears to be solely the decision of the signatory.. when choosing alternatives of treatment, the witless merely initials his choice under clauses 3 and 4. since this simply indicates choice, full signature and witness are not required.. .

  now clause 6:.

  "i consent to my medical records ands the details of my condition being shared with the emergency contact below (cong secretary recommended) and/or with member(s) of the hospital liaison committee for jehovah's witnesses.. .

  I think I've carried my blood card out of habit. Then one day I was going through my wallet and saw it and thought to myself: "Why the hell do I still have this thing?? Dear God, what if I was to get in an accident right now and the paramedics were to find this thing?"

  I rememeber an episode of Strong Medicine on Lifetime where one of the younger doctors got in trouble because they forgot to check the victim's id and they ended up getting a blood transfusion but were a JW.

  Can you believe that crap? The whole world already knows enough about the DUB policy of no blood. What a bunch of crock!

  i was actually baptized in my early 20's, so i spent some time as a teen and early twenties doing things that were not witness-like.

  one of those things was sex out of marriage and to be honest, i have no regrets.

  i have wondered though sometimes, where is that person i shared such a landmark moment with in life.

  He still in my hometown dating the various woman that he used to cheat on me with. Heard he's still has that same temper problem, love for getting into fights and has never went to college and at this point it doesn't look like he ever will.

  Last I heard he raped my best friend. And thanks to him I've never had the power to go back home and risk the chance of me running into him.

  The brother used to always call me last minute asking me to just give him a number of what I think I did in service last week while I'm still trying to get the sleep out of my eyes.

  i was raised a dub, though not born one.

  my mother had told the woman her story about studying in the 70's and that she believed the dubs were on to something but just didn't really care.

  How I love reading people's personal expierences. It keeps me in uplifting spirits for when I am ready to plan my own escape.

  Lol about the roommate who played Bible melodies all day! My mother does the same thing at night before trying to go to bed. And in the car she plays those damn WT/AWAKE CD's. I'm like damn can I please just turn on the radio. I'll listen to the weather report..anything but this!

  Of course there are big similarities. Although the Scientology religion is a lot more clever in attracting celebritites (hence the Celebrity Centre located in LA)

  I always wonder why the WT doesn't take advantage of the celebrity clientale they could attract by appealing to them more. Imagine how much word of mouth they could get from a guy like Tom Cruise if they wanted to. He apparently has donated millions to the religion already.

  Hmmm..I wonder if Prince drops in a couple hundreds after leaving the literature counter???

  Oh Man! They weren't lying with that "like a thief in the night" talk were they??

  Better quit college, eat as much chicken wings I can (although a new life of just fruits and veggie does sound delish!) and sleep in my running shoes.
